lots of fun data in the donors list

not a single harrell donor from outside his office with less than a strategic advisor payroll title, except an aide to solomon

bob kettle donated $350

director of DEEL listed occupation as "educator" - accurate in the same way that NASA director is an astronaut
With Their Jobs on the Line, Half the City's Department Heads Gave to Harrell's Campaign

“…Harrell has not-no-subtly encouraged his appointees to back his campaign, leaving some with the impression they’ll have more job security in a second…term if they help him defeat his challenger, Katie Wilson”
With Their Jobs on the Line, Half the City's Department Heads Gave to Harrell's Campaign - PubliCola
By Erica C. Barnett The directors of 20 Seattle departments have donated money to Mayor Bruce Harrell’s campaign effort—about half…

oh you certainly don't have to persuade me, i think it's sadly sort of funny that all these ostensibly smart dudes can read a book and drill so deeply into the nth-level meaning that they miss the facial allegory of "kindness = good, greed = bad". it's almost like they don't understand literature!
oh silly me, i slipped into quoting the silmarillion again while describing how these rich fucks always turn out evil 🤷🏻‍♂️
And they became forever invisible save to him that wore the Ruling Ring, and they entered into the realm of shadows. The Nazgûl were they, the Ringwraiths, the Úlairi, the Enemy's most terrible servants; darkness went with them, and they cried with the voices of death.
And one by one, sooner or later, according to their native strength and to the good or evil of their wills in the beginning, they fell under the thraldom of the ring that they bore and of the domination of the One which was Sauron's.
They had, as it seemed, unending life, yet life became unendurable to them. They could walk, if they would, unseen by all eyes in this world beneath the sun, and they could see things in worlds invisible to mortal men; but too often they beheld only the phantoms and delusions of Sauron.
every time i see a right-wing tolkein enthusiast it just reminds me of another group of men, mighty in their day, kings, sorcerers, and warriors of old. They obtained glory and great wealth, yet it turned to their downfall.
Frodo did not hurt a living creature in the Lord of the Rings. The free peoples were saved by God himself because Frodo showed mercy to Gollum.

anyone arguing against this is attempting light voter disenfranchisement
It's interesting to observe the parallels between the NYC and Seattle mayoral elections. In both cases, I'm seeing people saying the race is all about turnout, with the understanding that young people's votes are needed for the progressive choice in both cities to win out.
watching him on pablo torre finds out was the second most painful interview i've ever seen, behind bill ogden deposing owen shroyer
well he certainly didn't brain his way into his wealth

In general, this council focuses obsessively on the small stuff and disdains previous elected officials and the reasons behind their decisions. The worst instinct of all politicians is to behave as if they are the first person to ever hold their position or ask specific questions.
maybe everyone asking if he was dead is forcing him to do more public appearances on bad days

left/right exits within the extant political system

seattle does have reactionary conservatives - the boundaries they are reacting to are defined by the somewhat liberal overton window

but in a more conservative context, i’m sure this council would advocate for even more conservative policies
Seattle has always fought people who want to sell food but can't afford a storefront; we used to have basically NO food trucks, and the city has very slowly started allowing them to exist within constraints over the past 10 years. Classist and aesthetic puritanism is a feature of THIS city.

This sounds extreme, but is basically what many anti-homeless activists here in "blue" Seattle are advocating for: Involuntary commitment for homeless people with mental illness that manifests in visible symptoms, mandatory "accountability" for addicts, eliminating visible homelessness ("tents").

damn i just watched a man violate the word of god directly (matthew 19:18, mark 10:19, luke 18:20) - maybe start prefacing your questions with jesus's admonitions against bearing false witness?
my brother in christ there are whole fields of study devoted to lying with statistics. i can't help it if you're too fucking stupid to understand that
they’re called floridians
i think the bigger story re: humanizing candidates might be how every single detail about bruce makes him seem like an ethically compromised bully whose employees hate him (hi, it's me!) whereas wilson seems likeable and competent, if a little nerdy
really only need words 1-12 & 14 but i agree on the specifics too
