Fair enough. We all forget from time to time.

Too bad they didn't use Python and Textual, which I am fairly sure could have given a better experience. (Yes, I'm a fan of Textual).

You obviously know that defined benefit plans are essentially gone in the private sector, so I am puzzled by your linking of these two facts. Do you mean something more than the public sector retirement plans?

I remember one very smart girls in my class who was similar. Looking back, I suspect that "what went wrong" (although she did just fine in her adult life) was that we boys were encouraged more and competed among ourselves and all that social conditioning stuff. It was a long time ago mind you...

Donald Trump calling his ceasefire deal “Peace in the Middle East” doesn’t make it so - no matter how many world leaders (none of them the belligerent parties) gather to applaud..

What he’s done is restore something like the pre-Oct. 7, 2023 status quo, which was a long way from peace.

My take
At leaders’ summit in Egypt, Trump unveils fuzzy commitment to ‘peace in the Middle East’
Trump managed to hammer out a ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel. But what comes next is unclear

What an unsurprising decision by corporations that desperately need to make money with AI. If every other company with a chatbot isn't already doing this, then expect them to be following Meta's lead soon. The chatbot is not your friend; it's a corporate listening device. www.ft.com/content/22f7...

Meta will use conversations people have with its chatbots to personalise advertising and content across its platforms, in a sign of how tech companies plan to make money from artificial intelligence.

The owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp on Wednesday said it would use the content of chats with its Meta AI to create advertising recommendations across its suite of apps.

“People will already expect that their Meta AI interactions are being used for these personalisation purposes,” said Christy Harris, privacy and data policy manager at Meta.

That's too bad. Critique itself, done well, is enough. Nobody demands of literary critics that they design a better book.

Glad it's not just me to notice this: I thought I was going mad. At some point this did change, we were not always at war with Eurasia, and I want to know who is responsible so I can complain. Also, now it seems to be **bold** in the tools I use.

Thanksgiving in Canada has nothing to do with Columbus!

We are a colonial country with a million things to atone for but Thanksgiving is not one of them.

Our Thanksgiving is timed with the harvest and it's literally just "Be grateful for harvest"

"Minister of defence procurement Stephen Fuhr" surely knows that "no decision" is in fact a decision: to purchase the F-35 planes from a country whose leader wants to take over Canada, in the name of defence.

I have some questions after reading this story...

“Our pilots are off to the U.S. in the next few months to start training,” she added. “The infrastructure is going up. We have airfields being extended to get ready, so we are definitely not in a position where we are waiting.”
‘We are moving forward’: top soldier says F-35 preparations continue despite government review
Chief of the Defence Staff Gen. Jennie Carignan says the Canadian military is moving ahead with its preparations for F-35 fighter jets despite an ongoing government review of the purchase.

My naive wish is that even one Canadian journalist, one politician, one security analyst, would address the implications of Canada choosing military integration with an authoritarian power that no longer respects the rule of law or international law.
Looks like that’s not going to happen today.

Agree. The repeated framing of the American threat as "tariffs" is a complete misunderstanding and underestimation.

This is very good from Rita Trichur. Seems to me that the US has invoked National Security concerns to limit Canadian involvement in the US economy so it follows that the reverse is legitimate.

That's really interesting. I have to admit that the measurement problem has given rise to a lot of real-world results, even as I tend to think it's a morass to be avoided in general. But then I'm no one and he is Anthony Leggett, so I'm not going to argue hard for my view.
