Great discussion from Sharm airport with a legend of the humanitarian movement, Chef José Andrés @chefjoseandres.bsky.social

Thank you for all the @wck.org team do to feed people in Gaza and around the world.

The ceasefire in Gaza offers a critical window to scale up aid, ahead of winter.

I’ve allocated an additional $11 million from the UN Central Emergency Respond Fund, bringing the total to $20 million, to deliver food, water, shelter and health services, and keep essential infrastructure running.

Humanitarians are here, and we’re not giving up.

Over the next 60 days, we’ll deliver – food, water, medicine, shelter – at scale across Gaza.

We can do it.

Millions of Palestinians counting on lifesaving aid getting through at scale. We must make it happen.

With President Mahmoud Abbas in Sharm El Sheikh.

The release of the Israeli hostages and ongoing transfer of Palestinian prisoners are a critical step in the implementation of the peace deal.

Momentum is growing.

Humanitarians will deliver.

Vital day today in Egypt. 👇

As we work to massively scale up lifesaving aid to Gaza it was great to visit our partners the Egyptian Red Crescent.

Thank you Minister Dr. Maya Morsi, Dr. Amal Imam and the heroic staff and volunteers.

Good to kick off my visit to Egypt with excellent meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Badr Abdelatty in Cairo. We focused on Gaza: preparations for tomorrow’s vital peace summit, a massive surge of lifesaving aid and longer term plans for reconstruction. Huge task ahead.

A new Humanifesto, sent last night before flight from Riyadh to Cairo.

Covers latest on Gaza, plus Sudan, Chad, visit to Kuwait and Saudi, launch with Prince William of a new humanitarian memorial in London, recent media, and … the light that shines.

Excellent discussion as always with a true humanitarian at KSRelief Headquarters in Riyadh.

Thank you Dr. Al Rabeeah for your wisdom, knowledge and support. @unocha.org parternship with @KSRelief is critical to millions of people throughout the world.

Maybe we can shape more peaceful algorithms?

We can stand with people who lost so much on 7th Oct; and people who have suffered unimaginably since.

We can demand people eat, and that people are not held hostage.

We can fight antisemitism, and for international law.

A final thought, away from my day job. We have all seen during this terrible conflict the way social media has magnified division, encouraged distrust, incentivized zero sum arguments, platformed dehumanization, incited hatred, sidelined nuance, and undermined trust.

Beyond the immediate humanitarian effort, we must move on from this vicious cycle.

We must rebuild Gaza; rebuild trust between Israelis and Palestinians; rebuild a pathway to two states; and rebuild respect for international law that has been so corroded by this war.

Humanitarians also need funding: we have 28% of money requested through Flash Appeal.

Now is time to overwhelm Gaza with aid.

Please ask your government to step up.

You can support directly at crisisrelief.un.org, with funds going to trusted humanitarian partners.

We need: all crossings open; safe routes; removal of red tape and physical barriers; power restored to bakeries, hospitals, water stations; entry of at least 1.9m litres of fuel every week; protection of humanitarian workers; and NGO access.

We aim at hundreds of truckloads every day; food to over 2m people; restoration of decimated health system; 1.4m people reached with water and sanitation; 1000s of tents distributed every week; 700,000 kids back in education; explosive ordnance identified for removal.

I’ve set out the humanitarian movement’s plan for the next sixty days of lifesaving effort. The UN and our partners are ready to move – now. 172000 metric tonnes of food, medicine, tents are pre-positioned and cleared.

We have fought – and beaten – famines before.

The agreement is a breakthrough, a great moment for diplomacy.

But the real breakthrough will be when hostages are home; when children are fed, can sleep without fear, are not bombed and maimed, can receive anesthetics; and go to school; when families are reunited.

Palestinian and Israeli civilians have long hoped for this moment, and we have worked hard to get to this point. It must not be a false dawn.

There has been unimaginable suffering. Tens of thousands killed.

President Trump’s peace initiative must be allowed to succeed.

Hope and expectation. But this cannot be a false dawn.

My briefing to UN press corps on our 60 day plan for a massive scale up of lifesaving aid into Gaza.

From Riyadh, I’m in close contact with team in Gaza, US and regional colleagues to seize opportunity of President Trump’s peace deal and save as many lives as possible.

This moment, for which we have long worked, must not be a false dawn for all who long for end to conflict.

Hope, at last. I welcome the first phase of President Trump’s Gaza initiative.

Let’s get the hostages out and aid in – fast.

We are ready to move now, but we need safe access and full funding to turn this pause into real progress.

Every minute counts.

Back in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

On the agenda: delivering Gaza ceasefire, increasing access in Sudan, protecting operations in Yemen, and expanding our humanitarian partnership.
