My heart was jubilant while reading this story this morning - more than 100 Chinook salmon have passed the former Klamath River dam sites as well as the fish ladder at Klamath Lake and are naturally spawning in Oregon headwaters for the first time in over a century! 🐟🧪🌎

Just a year after four dams were removed, a group of fall Chinook have migrated nearly 300 miles into the Upper Klamath Basin.

Spent the morning at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs today and were treated to great viewing of Sully, the baby mountain gorilla. They have a wonderful area both inside and outside in which to roam around.

"Stalagmites can grow up to hundreds of feet tall and take many different shapes. They're created when mineral-rich water drips from the ceiling of a cave for thousands of years, where it steadily deposits calcite in a tower growing from the cave floor."

This is one of my favorite stories I've gotten to write. And it's that time of year again, when the skies in northwestern Washington are painted with squiggly black Vs of snow geese looking for a snack bar to settle down at for the winter.

Just don't get hit by poop when you're looking up at them!
Us, peering out the window: "Look, sire. The snow geese are on the move."

In honor of fall migration, we're reupping this gorgeous photo essay, with words by @rdzombak.bsky.social, about how Washington state is handling too much of a good thing. 🐦

The summer has been a "bumper" breeding season for dormice in Hampshire, conservationists said.

Volunteers from the Hampshire Dormice Group, who have been carrying out surveys to monitor the tiny mammal, said the warm, dry summer had allowed them more time to breed.

Meet the pale fork-marked lemur — one of Madagascar’s lesser-known night dwellers! Though you can’t see it in this photo, they get their name from the dark forked stripe that runs from their nose over their eyes and down their back.
