The ancient ones performed feats of memory, as their culture required them to commit long strings of numbers to their mind palaces.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

work smarter not harder etc etc! this is just good practice 😁
tinywriterlaura.bsky.social
hehe thank youuuu 🥰🥰

oh I don’t ‘plan’ until after the first draft, which is why i am currently staring at various added sections i THOUGHT might tie up some strings in the second draft and ruthlessly deleting them 😂 i’m sure this will be fine…!
tinywriterlaura.bsky.social
HA! oh I would most certainly read the book that had this in it
tinywriterlaura.bsky.social
pro writing tip: if you’re concerned about hitting your deadline for handing in your book just decide that you don’t need a whole section and delete it from your plan and then in a few days you won’t have to write it

Tadaa, here’s the cover for my next romcom, Reality Check out April 9th (and available to preorder now!)

On reality tv, what’s behind the scenes will always filter through. It’s f/f, lovers to enemies to lovers, chaotic nonsense with hot disabled babes. 👰🏼‍♀️💓📚🎥✨
The paperback cover for Reality Check by Lizzie Huxley-Jones which shows two women in bridal dresses, facing forward but smirking at each other. One is tall blonde and fat, and the other is small and ginger haired. The background is a bisexual fade with confetti and film camera patterns.

mum’s little dog Alfie has always had problems with his teeth and he had to have near enough all of them removed a while ago - now his little tongue is constantly sticking out of his mouth 🥹
A tiny little brown and white terrier dog curled up on a pillow beneath a quilt, staring at the camera with his pink tongue lolling out of one side of his mouth

same! i feel like everyone who’s eligible for the flu vaccination should automatically be eligible for the Covid one, but apparently that’s too much like common sense
tinywriterlaura.bsky.social
I wish the UK was doing this! It just makes so much more sense (and also doesn’t limit the jabs to people who can afford them)
tinywriterlaura.bsky.social
going to be me this year too 😭 i was on the list last year, off it the year before but wrangled by my GP for a clinic one, on it the year prior and off it the one before - now off again! absolute nonsense

It’s dispiriting that this is what getting a COVID vaccination now looks like to this chronic asthmatic.

Happiest of publication days to this beautiful book & the possibly-fae @samkhorton.bsky.social 🖤🖤🖤

If you like dark folklore you must check out @samkhorton.bsky.social's Gorse and its sequel Ragwort, which is out today!

Gorgeous inside and out, it's a haunting tale of love, madness, loss, and mysterious secrets, set in Cornwall amid the clash of Enlightenment with the old magical ways

A banner from Solaris with a picture of the book and a quote from Lorraine Wilson reading "brimming with love for the wild places, for the folklore and for the fallibility and generosity of the human heart. Horton is a storyteller outside of time, I suspect he may be fae"

When There Are Wolves Again is released today!

@catamaroon.bsky.social's new novel is a hopeful but believable dystopia, tackling speculative themes of biodiversity and environmental disaster, pandemic, justice, and our possible future, all explored in a deeply human & affecting way.

Southerness Lighthouse, Scotland (2024)

#ThePhotoHour #Photography
A squareish white lighthouse on rocks with rust and dirt all over. There's a balcony around the top but mostly on the other side of us. In the background is the sea, and the sky is pretty grey and flat
