I kinda have a rule against making sweeping judgements until the 20-game mark but I think Mavs fans should enter this season with a healthy skepticism as to what this team's win ceiling is in the West, barring a major midseason trade.

The only BIG priority should be developing Cooper Flagg.

Idk I don't wanna come off as argumentative. I just think it's obvious Mamdani's gonna win whether or not he gets immediate support from Jeffries/Schumer (they know it) & balancing a rising NYC political star's obvious appeal to progressives with how his brand resonates in swing territory is tricky.

I hear you, not trying to distract, I just think that context is relevant to Jeffries' sense of loyalty as Minority Leader. His job is to represent the interests of the whole House coalition, not just his district or his city. He represents the moderate Dems (in less safe seats) in the House too...

and while I'm not a centrist (progressive but a Dem 1st), a lot of fellow progressives in my life downplay the extent to which far left voices like Mamdani dominate media, & how that complicates coalition building in & out of Congress. Partly why Jeffries is iffy on it. I'd just endorse him tho lol.

That's fair, agree that it's not *just* NYC. It's hyper-urbanized places generally, but NYC is the best example with AOC/Mamdani/Jeffries/Schumer all in the news all the time. I weigh that general problem v heavily. A lot of people we need to vote for Dems see it embodied by mostly coastal elites...

I don't disagree with your overall point but I think the bigger lesson from all this consternation about Mamdani is that influence, both political and cultural, in the Democratic Party is way too concentrated in NYC. Both Congressional leaders + its best known voices. Not helpful to gain/hold power.
