facebook always felt to me like it was a spam website, including the way it's built and the way it serves ads. it's kind of shocking to me such a user-hostile site ever took off

I get the "genie's out of the bottle"-style catastrophising about AI being everywhere but, take for example, spam, plaigarism, and misinformation have always been very easy to make and there's very simple ways to control them. if a surge of spam isn't being controlled that's intentional

AI creates a revolutionary new type of video that makes you feel disappointed after you watch it and find out it never happened

this shit doesn't happen to me. I am a bugfixing champ. if a bug eludes me for over 12 hours something's gone very wrong

now I've spent several hours figuring out why every single sprite is flipped the wrong way round (and continues to be so even if flipped manually) and I have no fucking clue why

I do my best to make menus as robust as possible (never make it so the submenu is controlled by more than 1 variable, have a thing that reloads the menu if the variable is changed and call it in every loop, rather than load it once, etc)
thewaether.bsky.social
coding a menu is the hardest thing because there is nothing in real life that behaves that way for you to model it on

something I've had to contend with: making music is, inherently, a bit camp

people always ask me why i use tris, its because on really low poly models it gives you full control over how the mesh deforms with the rig and how light hits the mesh. My tris are very particular, i dont model in quads and then triangulate later because blender usually chooses the wrong direction

I prefer “anti-fascist“ for a host of reasons and this is a nice practical one.

I think we really should stop using antifa and just fully say anti-fascist and get them saying they are against anti fascism. Using antifa is giving them some distance and I genuinely think some of their base don’t even know that’s what it stands for.

I remember a piece of advice that was like "always draw a character with the darkest possible skin in concept art because the executives will always lighten it"

🎨Bayonetta's character designer, Mari Shimazaki made Miary Zo's Costume 03!

“The combination of a green base with red accents was inspired by the Madagascar flag, and from an early stage onwards, a white inner layer was incorporated to highlight Miariz's dark skin.”

fear factory is kind of underrated... "Demanufacture" is that perfect industrial metal sound to me. it was the first time I heard an album where it sounded like every instrument could cut you
thewaether.bsky.social
I've seen some pros say they can't do this, wheras it was one of the first things I learned, again because I started out by learning fear factory songs which seem to do this a lot
thewaether.bsky.social
a thing I can do that I learned a lot of people can't is that I can chug the guitar string while palm muted at an extreme speed. however, it kills my arm after a few minutes
thewaether.bsky.social
what fear factory *DO* is. they turn the kick drum up to an extreme level so it drowns out everything else in the mix. that seems to be the entire method
thewaether.bsky.social
I've been attempting to get the guitar to sound percussive like my idols Fear Factory but I listened to some isolated guitar tracks from them and realised even they don't sound like that.

update: string is fine but the pick is a fine powder
