Price a bit high for a one year rental but the other moves are what I've been saying and I'm not opposed to the skubal trade but would like to extend him. This is similar to the Johan trade after 2007 which is fairly comical.
The fact that Vientos is being tied to first base off Pete walks means that no matter how much focus defense is getting, first base defense is not a factor in that.
Right and we agree on this, the next man up in most people's minds is Vientos, who is a downgrade both offensively and defensively. I'd take Petes defense in a heartbeat if Vientos is the alternative.
I'm not basing it on the Guerrero deal, basing it on what Pete wants and what the team wants and finding middle ground. He made $30m this year, his AAV won't be a pay cut.
You can point to everyone on the team for an error they made that cost them a single game in the micro. When you miss the playoffs by 1 game, that matters, and that's baseball. However, in the macro, it's obvious that the starting pitching is the culprit. How many games did Pete win with his bat?
I'd be less pissed if it was the Yankees. Just shows how still butt hurt they are about Soto. But the Yankees prefer left handed bats and they already have Judge and Stanton from the right side. Plus if they wanted to do it they would have been more in play last year.
Sure, less guarantee for aging players is always preferable, but to get a deal done both sides have to leave their comfort zone to reach the middle ground.
I try to be reasonable and see both sides and come up with a solution. Got the idea from @qflea.bsky.social on the options so shout out for that piece of creativity in the structure.
