🚨 Launched: State of Wildfires Report 2024-25

The Americas felt the harsh reality of what it means to live on a more fire-prone planet, with extreme #wildfire episodes made 2-3 times more likely by #climate change.

Notably this problem is also solved 100% without any AI and instead, at zero cost, by journals adopting format-agnostic initial submissions (as many journals have already done)
Finally, someone has solved a real problem with AI! No more having to take a paper in the format for a journal that rejected you, and reformat it for a new journal. Well done!! formatmypaper.com

Honestly kind of surprised it took this long to automate blackmail
Definitely nothing can go wrong with OpenAI having a full record of your sexy chatbot interactions.

Basically this seems like an ethical uncanny valley. It aims to simulate an encounter with an actual mind, but one where the pseudo-mind is incapable of actual enjoyment or arousal, rendering those things irrelevant.
hahaha, you're right, ah well
Hahaha you're right, ah well
Tell me you're running out of money without telling me...
Sorry, I fixed the typo hahaha
Love that in a few short weeks OpenAI has gone from pretending to be about LLMs as a restrained social good to creating a pure slop TikTok and turning ChatGPT into an explicitly sychophantic fuck machine for gooners
Sam Altman says OpenAI plans a ChatGPT version with a "personality that behaves more like what people liked about 4o" and will add "erotica for verified adults" (Sam Altman/@sama)

Actually not even a little bit representative, I just opened a new box. H, T, M or S
Based on this not very representative and misleading survey of comics and graphic novels in my collection, it's best to have a surname that starts with T, M or S if you want to make it in comics*

Predictably I now love Foxy Shazam's Oh Lord. Have to imagine James Gunn gets some nice thank you cards for these features
Relatedly: what maniac at DCU headquarters thought it was a good idea to change the theme music for season 2 of Peacemaker?! Are you insane?
Peacemaker really has one of the few unskippable opening credits sequences. Also, with The Boys, Watchmen (tv and original comic) and Invincible, the superhero critique franchises remain much better than the original superhero content

if you're concerned about information security, you should know Signal isn't actually secure. instead, try Mastodon, which is a website where you can be guaranteed no one will ever see what you post

So let me get this today’s drama right:

* Jay followed noted transphobe Jonathan Chait
* Blacksky user Link pointed that out that’s fucked up after the past week
* Link was banned on Blueskys appview presumably by Jay
* But Link is also hidden from Blacksky b/c it still uses said appview
If nothing else it is a bit weird to slam your users continually
I'm not confused, this was illuminating! Thanks
Can anyone fill me in on why everyone hates Jay Graber here now? I love this place but occasionally it does dip into very "I've just turned the tv on and apparently we're 5 eps into some drama I'm completely not on top of" vibes
Yikes, but yeah, probably people in your friends list do (for whatever reason, could be research) and/or you fit some part of the demo of someone who would (I mean, me too, it'll give it a go, we just are more likely to notice it and go "EURGH, NO THANKS")
Still unconvinced that your phone is listening to you – it doesn't need to, and most people have no cookie/general online hygiene. Especially if you use LLMs, any marketplace, and you never VPN, your phone doesn't need to listen to you. It's a vaguely targeted gun firing into a barrel of fish
After getting served an ad for a saxophone mouthpiece this morning on FB and thinking about "targeted ads" and people's ongoing theory their phone must be devoting unnecessary server time listening to & processing our speech to serve us ads, this is what I have seen in the last 3 mins of scrolling
An ad for "CorrectToes" which are toe spaces to "align and strengthen your toes" An ad featuring "a busy mum of two" using "Minbie" a small baby bottle washer and steriliser An ad from a page called "Perth mum vibes" An ad for an "all-in-one" wearable breast pump
