A skilled spiritual medium, Anna has plenty of experience working with the dead; the undead are another story. So, when she learns the woman she loves has become betrothed to a powerful vampire, Anna must join a society of hunters to save her beloved and end the monster's plot. #WIP
I hope the people who decided I should be the one to get laid off know I’m in the middle of writing a book and they just secured themselves particularly unsavory roles in it
I was just laid off from my job. Just barely over a year since I lost my last job, I was finally starting to feel some sense of stability again and the rug was pulled out from under me. To make matters worse, because of some timeline shit I'm being denied for unemployment. I hate it here.
My cousin got married today in my parents’ yard with my mom as the officiant. As a teen coming out to my mom and being met with “you’re not bi, you’re just confused” I never in a million years thought I’d see a pride flag hanging on her mailbox. I’m so happy but also have conflicting feelings.
It’s already meant to be the first book in a trilogy and there was really no good place to put an end in the middle 🥲
I shelved my first book because it was over 200k and I couldn’t come up with any other ways to cut it down 💀
“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.” – Diary of Anne Frank, January 13, 1943
Art is created at the crossroads of experience and imagination; AI has neither.
I think, for the time being, I'm going to shelve The Moon's Ashen Glow. I've had no success with querying and I know it needs more editing, but I honestly have no desire to be in that world right now so I'll be returning my focus to my beloved vampire hunters.

Fun fact: I had never read nor watched Dracula before I started writing my first vampire hunter story a few years ago, so it wasn't until I'd finished at least the first draft and thoroughly fallen in love with my character Quincy that I realized people would think his name was a reference

“When you get a suspicious book, “you look it up to see what else the [author] has written. And you see there's 30 things, and none of them have any reviews, and they were all written in the last two years,” DeMeester-Lane says.”
How Local Librarians Keep AI Slop Off the Shelves
AI is being used to create nonsensical, sometimes dangerously inaccurate books. Local librarians are tasked with keeping these volumes out of their collections.

I stayed up until 2am writing last night for the first time in over a year and I’m very tired but my soul feels full and happy
Me: Research for this book will be easy since I've already done so much research on all things Victorian for my first book.
Also me: I'm setting the first chapter of this book in a Tudor house so I have to learn as much as I can about them to describe it convincingly.
I’ve spent the last few weeks trying to figure out the plot for my new WIP and suddenly it hit me today and I had to stop everything I was doing at work to write an outline. I’ve always been a pantser but if inspiration is going to strike so violently I’m writing that shit down.
There was a shooting tonight at the mall I work at. As I was leaving work I saw the police coming in. I know I should feel something but at this point I’m just numb.
A very rough first paragraph for a very rough first draft but it's my first new book in over a year and I'm absolutely pumped
Do any other historical fiction writers use historical figures as face claims for your characters? I like having actual photographs of how characters would look if I can, which weirdly means the main characters of this new WIP just happen to look like Maude Adams and Johannes Brahms.
Writing a new story based on my old vampire hunter story means going back and re-reading writing I haven't touched in two years. I'm scared.
Emerging from my well to announce that I’ve started a new WIP about vampire hunters that functions as somewhat of a prequel to my other vampire hunter book but follows a different group of characters. I have a good feeling about this one!
I just got my first agent rejection since April, maybe May. It was actually super specific about what the agent didn’t like which I appreciate, but now I’m sad because I thought I was in a good place and they wanted to see a lot of changes I don’t know how to make 🥲
I got rear-ended a few weeks ago and lost most of my bumper stickers. I thought this was an appropriate replacement.
Went to an MCR concert this weekend and Mikey Way was wearing an Oasis tour shirt. I didn’t even know Oasis toured. I didn’t even know Oasis had more than one song.
Still thinking about that time two years ago I commissioned the perfect artist for a portrait of my favorite character from my first book and after two progress images the artist disappeared off every social media platform never to be seen again 🥲
Using gen ai is basically telling on yourself to the world. You’re either saying you have no confidence in your ability to learn how to be good at something, or you’re simply too lazy. Hard to say which is worse but they’re both sad.
