AN AMERICAN FAMILY (1973) has been very hard to find for the 5 decades since the original reality show aired on PBS. Even the Library of Congress AV room said they didn't have it when I asked there last summer. Music rights supposedly the main issue. Hooray that all episodes are suddenly on YouTube:

4 weeks from today the plan is to drive to Montréal w/ an old friend—and his dog, if said friend gets his driver's license reinstated before THEN, so as to be able to return the car to Toronto & allow me to fly out of YUL w/o penalty. We'll stay w/ his brother's family, & maybe day-trip to QC 11/11

(Canada was also the first country I ever visited outside the US—Sault Ste. Marie as a baby—and I drove across the country in the summer of '99. Spent a while in Vancouver—where, as is the reaction of many on first exposure, I wanted to move—leaving the Trans-Canada Highway to visit Edmonton, etc.)

A month from today I'll be waking up in Toronto for the 1st time since Nov. 2012. I visited at least annually from '04, but in Jan 2013 went to HK, & a few years later I was a dad. Okay, I seem to have been duped into sharing this pitch-perfect parody variation on a meme image + phrase that's been making the rounds. Searching the image via Google Lens, the A.I chips in that you're looking at “lentil puree with sausages…classic Italian dish“, & this insant ID is not a good sign

Google A.I now the first result seen when looking st images via Google Lens, and looking at this pic it says 《The image shows a dish of sausages with lentil puree.

This is a classic Italian dish, often served on New Year's Eve for good luck and prosperity.

Lentils are considered a symbol of good fortune and wealth because they resemble small coins.

The dish is traditionally made with a large pork sausage called cotechino.》

Google image-search results for this supposed RFK, Jr. dish. It's been shared a lot in the last few days, but there's no sign of RFK, Jr. in the mix

I can still imagine him eating this with his eyes, though, in some literal way appropriate to such a bizarre insect. It's a meal fit for a (brain) larva! Certainly does nothing to dispel the feeling that gave rise to this once-viral (throwback) cartoon commissioned from @sarahneff-art.bsky.social:

This is so on-brand, I had to show it to my kid this morning. It conveys how archetypically weird #RFKJr & his ilk are. If the idea were to make this available as an appetite suppressant, that would at least start to make (still-weird!) sense. This is a primal violation of the idea of food.

There's an incentive for the kid to sell tickets, & by extension an incentive for her parent to test out the usefulness of social-media assistance; I've resisted in the past
