After fighting backstage, Louise as Lulu seduces her lover and keeper (Fritz Kortner) and then gloats as they’re discovered by his new fiancée (Daisy D’ora) and son (Franz Lederer). A classic scene from Louise’s greatest film: Pandora’s Box (1929).

Today's the feast of St Apollonia, a 3C Alexandrian martyr who was hugely popular in late medieval England, for she could be asked to intercede against toothache. Here she is holding a tooth in pincers on the late 15C screen at Ludham, Norfolk.

Midsummer Night’s Dream

And I float—
untethered, fever-warm, skin flushed ripe.
Is your hand still holding mine?

Honey pools in the corners of my mouth,
thick, golden heat trickling down my throat

Here’s one of my favourite paintings, El Sueño [c 1800] by Goya (1746-1828). It’s in the Dublin National Gallery & magical. Using a build up of thin layers of paint he manages to trick the eye into believing that the woman’s chest is breathing! Goya was fascinated with dreaming!
