The whole idea for this came from a great discussion with Nathan Staff at a poster at the Peripheral Nerve Society meeting in Montreal two years ago.
Sequencing these samples gives us important insight into changes in neuronal transcriptomes due to the axonally-transported mRNAs from these neurons that are abundant in these easy to obtain skin biopsies.
Our study shows what I think can be possible if we use skin biopsies from neuropathic pain patients in a similar fashion to how tumor biopsies are analyzed in oncology.
A great collaboration with Nathan Staff at Mayo Clinic and Sandra Rieger at The U (sorry, University of Miami will forever be The U to me). This project was led by Andy Wangzhou and @dianatavf.bsky.social at Center for Advanced Pain Studies.

Never assume that you know all about what any drug molecule is doing in the body - where it's going, what it's binding to. A new example:

Certain people just living in their home is now considered DEI in order to eliminate providing funds for basic safety of communities.
Months before catastrophic floods swept through an Alaska Native village on Sunday, the Trump administration canceled a $20 million grant meant to protect the community from extreme flooding. At the time, the EPA administrator said he was eliminating "wasteful DEI and Environmental Justice grants."

The vicious disassembly of American health and science leadership continues with no real resistance from congress
The editors of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) were apparently fired today.

The precursor to MMWR began in 1878 to address emerging public health threats rapidly.

We are not “great” without it. We are vulnerable to threats from sporadic foodborne illness to bioterrorism.
