The Governor is at the Alaska Airlines Center as the first bus loads of Kipnuk Climate Refugees arrive from their C17 flight from Bethel tonight.

These floods are devastating to rural Alaska.

These folks have lost their homes, vehicles, and boats, as well as subsistence food they had stored for winter.

I’ve donated. Help if you can. This is a reputable place to give.

These poor animals had to be abandoned due to the mandatory evacuation of humans from the village of Kipnuk. Owners had to leave their pets. Bethel Friends of Canines is helping to find, fly out and care for these animals.

If you can join me, any donation helps.

A terminal diagnosis often meant losing your home. College students often with without insurance because they lost coverage at 18. Preventative care wasn’t free or affordable. It was a tale of two citizens, one with money and healthcare, another without either.

an Indigenous Peoples Day reminder that borders are bullshit and every Indigenous person from across the Americas deserves to be in the US more than every person of European origin

fuck borders, fuck ICE, land back.
This change is also going to come fast. CBJ code requires the sales tax initiative to implement within 30 days of election certification, so ~November 21. The reduced sales taxes will impact the CBJ cash flow in the next quarter of tax filing, or January 31, 2026.
You are right, I work there. It's not going to be good for the library, or any other CBJ department. We had a staff meeting Wednesday morning and it was depressing.
It's going to be a quick learning curve for Brooks. Voter approved bond referendums are going to slow down projects that require quick action, like say large flood events. A government funded by bond referendums is even slower and less efficient.
It’s hard to make it home in time for dinner when your family lives in Anchorage.
So “never forget” only last 24 years.
I would feel even less comfortable with this if I were Canada. That base is a 20 minute flight from the US-Canada border.
not that i'm a fan of this, but the US has military bases in dozens of countries, and I've always been curious about the reaction folks would have to hosting a foreign military here. guess we get to find out now
Nothing says “America First” like letting another country put an Air Force base in Idaho
I would vote for Jay Hammond (R) if he were alive and running, but never Dan Sullivan. He’s a Koch brother’s plant from Cleveland who’s hardly even lived in Alaska.
Graham Platner is inspiring. I hope he is the future of the Democratic Party. If only Alaska could find someone like him to go to DC.

Once again Fairbanks has proved that when we work hard together progressives win- we’ve done it three years in a row. This is how you win in a red state- you get on doors, you talk to people, you listen and you meet them where they’re at. So proud of my city
In races for Fairbanks Mayor, Fairbanks City Council, Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly and the Fairbanks North Star Borough School Board, progressives won all but one of the contested races, according to preliminary results.
Fairbanks progressives win near-sweep in local elections - The Alaska Current
Progressive candidate Mindy O’Neall’s victory over Fairbanks Mayor David Pruhs headlined a nearly clean sweep of the area’s local elections Tuesday night.

Where did you see 40-50% reporting? In this article it says that a valley poll worker reported 325 ballots at 5pm, expecting 600 votes by 8pm. Downtown polling usually gets 1/3 of that number. There will be additional drop box votes, but I expect to only see around 1200-1500 more votes total.
Election day in Juneau features 3 Assembly races, 3 school board seats and 3 tax propositions on ballot
Polls open until 8 p.m.; preliminary count of some votes expected tonight; final results scheduled to be certified Oct. 21

Yesterday Juneau voted to significantly cut the taxes to the local municipality. I can’t understand how the electorate is so easily swayed by rhetoric and lies, at all levels. The next few months and years are going to be difficult as our Assembly has to choose what city services live and die.
Voters favor sales tax exemption, reject seasonal sales tax in early results; Bryson and Brooks even in Assembly race
Whitney, Johnson and Cullum lead among five school board candidates with about 6,000 ballots counted; CBJ estimates 40-50% of ballots remain to be counted.

Biden also never had a government shut down.
Trump’s speech to the Navy could have been one of the most expensive rallies ever…if those sailors were getting paid. Just another unpaid workday for 10,000 sailors.

Well this is a wonderful thought to start the day.

The removal of ICE tracking apps is yet another step over the line of free speech. When asked, Google said they “removed the app because ICE is considered a vulnerable group that had been targeted in recent violence.”

The Costco in Juneau offers all the vaccines that I could t find at other pharmacies.

Sherry was an amazing person. I think of her often and how fortunate those of us were who were changed by her influence.
Somebody needs to distract him with a Voodoo doughnut. Maybe then he would stop the invasion of Portland.
Have you read The Blue Bear by local author Lynn Schooler? It’s the story of building a friendship with a man who sought to photograph a “blue bear,” and the terrible loss of love when a girlfriend is murdered. It’s an unforgettable book set in Southeast AK.
