Homestead was my personal gateway to Flying Nun artists such as The Chills, Tall Dwarfs, and The Verlaines. As an American kid in the '80s there was no other way to (affordably) access this exotic jangly pop from NZ. The label will always hold a special place in my heart (and record collection).

There's a biography of Chris Knox out this week - the author Craig Robertson contacted me a few years ago, as back in 1995 when I was at Ak Uni, I made a half hour documentary on Chris and he wanted to see it.
Anyway, I dug out the digital file and it's now online, enjoy! youtu.be/VQjvic02S8M?...

“Spotify won’t prohibit this music—not because it thinks it’s innovative or ushering in a new era of technological futurism (the platform has never cared about culture) but simply because it’s generating streams.”

she was “wrapped in the Israeli flag and paraded like a trophy."

We are losing something by having newsrooms where everyone who has more than a few years’ experience has gotten fired. I don’t fault a young writer for not knowing about things that happened before she was born. But now there are no editors to help give context to these stories, either.

60 years ago today, john coltrane recorded "om" in seattle while (according to several biographers) tripping on LSD. the next night, he performed "a love supreme" in its entirety for one of the only known times. idk seems significant?
I’ve found that a remedy for writer’s block (or plain boredom!) is just flipping though a dictionary and randomly finding a word that unlocks “something”.
Obviously you need the physical object lying around so it can guide you properly.

The announcement that @troubleinmind.bsky.social is shutting down left me pondering the longstanding legacy of the label here on the site. RSTB and TiM took pretty parallel paths over the years and they'll be sorely missed. I put together a mix that explores the label in 60 tracks. bit.ly/46t4XtI
