That's really annoying. Might it be a gaijin issue? Had a bit of that. Guide refused to respond to MNL in Japanese, even though he speaks it. MNL persisted++ & the guide eventually gave in.

The only nighly convo among tour visitors at the bar centred around how much (or how little) they, their table mates & "him over there" had paid for their stay. Nothing at all about the lovely island's environment, culture or even the food
Oh Kavey, what a thoroughly disheartening experience. Can empathise, ended up in a similarly tour op favoured hotel on one of our wine trip. Felt that way on arrival but there a few nights & fortunately found our gang had some work arounds. Hope it's the last such for you.
We've everything in the house but apricots (easily fixed with a walk to the local shops). Leftover candied peel was looking for a purpose!
