The South has been Republican controlled for a long time. One must ask why people in the South struggle more than most states and why the party that claims to staunchly follow Christianity seems to always do opposite of what Jesus would do.

addition to the lack of federal SNAP
funds, Republican governors in Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi have all said they won't use state funds to supplement the
program. Other states have committed to using state money, including Minnesota, where Democratic Gov. Tim Walz authorized $4 million in emergency funding.
As of September 2025, Tennessee has 690,629 SNAP recipients. Shelby County has by far the largest number of recipients in the state, with more than 152,000 receiving SNAP benefits.
Nashville's Davidson County is second with about 60,000 recipients.
