It is our duty to fight for our freedom.
It is our duty to win.
We must love each other and support each other.
We have nothing to lose but our chains.

Please don’t stop the conversations about the different ways to access your favorite media and which media you can simply do without.

Our dollars can be powerful but I promise you our habits our even more so.

A boycott without a vision for other realities is simply a standoff that returns us to the status quo. Exactly what’s happening this week.

We need to be able to build and support systems we won’t have to boycott. And that starts with understanding how we shape systems in the first place.

We can do the same with media.

How can convos around which media is accessible through libraries extend to convos about protecting them?

How can our convos about the challenges of accessing sports outside of subscriptions motivate us to change how we collectively engage?

Keep asking questions.

People paused scrolling or stopping by just to see what Target had at the same time economic uncertainty started rising and I do think together it shifted folks casual spending habits.

Some may have shifted to other stores but, for many, the habit was built around the place. The model on the habit.

I'm hearing the rapture is supposed to happen on Tuesday. I wonder how everyone's doing at the seminary where I used to work.

Me between lessons: surely they’ve covered it all

Me observing lessons: oh this is a brilliant extension of the core skills 😂

My kids having access to certain experiences I didn’t is such an interesting learning experience. I see new complexities in seemingly simple things. They’ve been in swim lessons for almost 3 years and I think “surely you’ve learned all there is to know” but each practice really is a whole new skill.

It’s going to break your heart how many people you know, love, and respect will turn out to be cowards. Prepare yourself as best you can. You are not alone, but you are your own center. Be a strong center.

I've been asking "What if today was the freest you'd ever get to be for the rest of your life?" all year long and I really wish more people would engage with that.

Resisting AI in K-12 schools is an extension of the fight against the failures of NCLB, excessive standardized testing, and the ranking of students and of RTTT and its attempt to evaluate teachers through "datafication, measurement and automation."
If you were in one fight, you must be in the other.
A genuine and in-depth engagement of cognition, knowledge and education reveals that education is a thoroughly complex, relational, dynamic and interpersonal human endeavour. Although generative AI is marketed as a substitute for deep, meaningful human interaction, these qualities of education defy datafication, measurement and automation.

I’d be wanting to do my own look into the organizers. Thank you for this and I’m so sorry for all the ways the groups that proclaim to care about these issues continue to fail Eritrea

“So, the rise of these industrial-scale computing facilities that are needed for A.I. and other Internet applications is certainly one of the factors driving up prices.”

“And I think there’s a chance that A.I. is going to drive our bills even higher in the future.”
How AI infrastructure is driving a sharp rise in electricity bills
Electricity bills are climbing nationwide, rising faster than inflation in many places. The explosive growth of AI and the massive data centers behind it are driving demand and straining the grid. To ...

The response to this piece has been incredible. Huge thanks to all the translators and localizers who shared their stories.

I'm now planning the next two editions: First, if you're a healthcare worker—a nurse, therapist, tech, admin, doctor—and AI has impacted your job, I'd love to hear from you.

Y’all, they are just admitting it.
Tony Wan, head of platform at MagicSchool investor Reach Capital, explained to me that AI education companies benefit from teachers and students flagging inappropriate content and otherwise helping guide product development. To that end, he said, “we often encourage our founders to just get this in the hands of teachers and users as quickly as possible—not necessarily as a refined product. And I don’t mean that in a bad or irresponsible way.” Wan later clarified that this “should not come at the expense of quality or pose risks.”
