We are 🤏 close to having zero excuse not to have a universal basic income AND universal healthcare

It’s part of why they’re doing this, stomping the boot down.

We know too much, we can do too much, and it threatens their wallets.

In an ideal world that would be fantastic. I dream of a world where basic research is properly funded, discovery pipelines are followed properly and drugs are available based on need not cost.
I doubt I will live to see that.

So am I glad that I didn’t drop like half a million dollars that I didn’t have, to go to medical school, devote 4 years, then 6-8 years of residencies, fellowships, and internships

Just to have care dictated by insurance companies & maybe go to jail for doing my actual job?

I’d had pregnancy complications that would have basically left me for dead in a parking lot, twice, if I weren’t in Illinois

Other states? Your doc goes to jail for treating you so you don’t die of sepsis

The fall of #Roe was also murder, & they know it

True that - there are some applications where it makes sense to call it an industry

I’m thinking more like, insurance companies like #UHC buying up doctor’s offices, dictating treatment, creating medical deserts

Hospital chargemasters just pulling numbers out of their butts

Absolutely. We are starting to see that in the UK with vets (Veterinarians). Big companies have been buying up individual practices, and when that happens, treatments are over-recommended, prices charged are much higher and staff are forced to "sell".

But I look at the US model, where Insulin costs thousands of dollars a month, compared to a cost of say $10 to make. THAT is evil. How can that be allowed?

So developing new drugs is very, very expensive, and for every one that succeeds hundreds never get that far. So to that extent I don't mind SOME element of business there, because Government would never speculate that way and without at least some profit, new treatments would never appear

I’ve been wanting to go to medical school since I was like 14

Now I’m 32, still haven’t made it to med school or law school, but I have never in my life been able to stand the term “medical industry.”

It shouldn’t be an “INDUSTRY”

It’s a basic human right.

Not a profit machine.

And yet.

I was doing my PhD at the time he published his paper, and even back then we saw it as both terrible science and dangerous misinformation.

It is interesting just how amplified his message was by the mass media (in the days before social media)

For 21 years, scientists in Denmark followed more than one million children to find out if vaccines cause autism. The results are clear: there is no connection whatsoever. Aluminum in vaccines, or any other ingredient, showed zero connection to autism or any long-term illness. Vaccines are safe.
