If you want to listen to or read my play MAKING PLANS WITH NIGEL - as broadcast on Radio 4 - you can now do so here: erislabs.net/stu/nigel/

It's a comedy drama about those never-not-hilarious topics - breast cancer and Brexit. Starring Mark Benton , Sally Lindsay & Lewis MacLeod.

I remain unconvinced that anyone will want to initiate a wank by having a dialogue with Clippy about the kind of stuff they want to see, making sure to specify 'normal number of limbs please' at the end unless that's what they are into

Me watching GOOD BOY (2025)

Tomorrow, when Windows 10 stops getting security patches, the accumulated filth of all their driver updates and shareware will foam up about their waists and all the Windows normies will look up from the gutter and cry, "Save us!" and I will reply, "Ok, first do you have a USB stick..."

But clearly that's not going to work or be watchable

They always talk about this stuff as if people are going to sit down and ask it to make a feature film starring Marilyn fighting Mrs Doubtfire in space or whatever.

Oh wow, I can really imagine wanting to see this* (*once, then shrugging and never opening it again)

I refuse to believe there is an actual audience for this put-godzilla-in-die-hard-lol nonsense. Anyone investing in it does not deserve money.

Kinda ableist, Gabby. Some people are unable to write tens of thousands of words of fanfic smut on AO3 because they lack the absolute fucking freak gene

So awful that Hollywood now needs to rely on AI to make a film poster this bad

Sad news everyone, I’m officially pulling the plug on Brightsiders, my super fan podcast for the 2017 movie Bright. I still feel like there were many interesting topics left to discuss but after 7 years of weekly episodes I’ve learned that no one has ever listened to the show.

Why the fuck are we calling racism the 'race debate'? What is it about race that we are debating, exactly?

(I guess one answer could be 'does race exist as a meaningful, scientific concept?' but somehow I doubt that is what is meant here)

So weird and great that kids TV showed us a story about a middle aged man experiencing an existential crisis and then hammered it home through the medium of Bossa Nova

Magilla Gorilla. A cartoon gorilla wearing a small purple bowler hat and a purple bow tie. He has red trousers with green braces. In this picture he’s sat in a yellow chair, holding a banana, while a small bald human man with a moustache talks to him from behind a wooden fence.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

You would think this would be something they would try to nip in the bud early on, but apparently not

"Sorry, I won't be around next week. I have Your Party service."

"Ugh. Can't you get out of it?"

"Apparently not. It's ok, my boss says they will pay sick pay equivalent as long as I don't vote to destroyer capitalism."
