Storytelling is much better when it has a clear POV. And a consistent POV for your channel, or brand, can help you with a content strategy or instructional plan. It makes you more human, relatable, and trustworthy no matter if your content is educational or entertainment.

My god damn green screen tho, lol. Yay audio FX chains, too. :)

I love hardware and I *love* my Shure mic and Audient hardware. But honestly? The best way to improve your audio quality isn't expensive stuff. It's treating your recording space. Blankets, cushions, and bookshelves absorb sound better than bare walls.

Yeah this is contentious, and YMMV, but it's something I love as a guest and I believe fully it helps me give you better stuff.

Podcasters doing interviews: Send some of your questions ahead of time. Your guests will give better answers when they've had time to think in advance, and you'll get a better conversation.

Temp matters? Voice actors... keep a water bottle at room temperature. Cold water can tighten your vocal cords, and you want them relaxed for the performance.

Hi @mischaetc.bsky.social - I make sites/graphics and have some time! A few more recent sites to see if you are into my work in general: stereoforest.com, improvupdate.com, jendehaan.com (though note I'm always a bit more lax on my own sites than those for clients!)

Getting close to the mic makes your voice sound warmer and often, deeper. Use this intentionally for different character reads or podcast segments. Play around with the proximity.

Audio drama creators: Record "wild" and weird lines (alt takes and improvised stuff) at the end of each session. You'll thank yourself during editing when you need options, background voices, etc.

Block every AI "creator" you see. Let them suffer defeat in silence and obscurity. Let them be forgotten and their names erased from time. Turn away and let them fade.

Acoustic treatment is just as or more important than your mic hardware. But before you buy expensive supplies, try recording 30-second tests in different rooms of your home (closets!). You might already have a good recording space. Also layered moving blankets + makeshift structures can work well.

Compression settings don't matter quite as much than consistent mic technique. Stay the same distance from your mic throughout your recording (usually a fist away, unless acting which is more variable), and you'll need less fixing later.

The online video landscape just changed. OpenAI, YouTube, Google, and Meta have all released free, high-quality generative video tools aimed at social media. This means our feeds are about to be flooded with AI content. What now? What about creativity?

Podcasters: Listening to your own episodes all the way through is the fastest way to improve. You'll notice pacing issues and verbal habits you can't hear while recording. And catch editing errors. And you'll get BETTER on all fronts this way!
