Huge MTG nerd! You can find my wife and me on Twitch jamming limited or EDH. I love talking about goofy brews and edge-case rules. 1/2 of @steelcitymtg.bsky.social #MoxfieldPartner Brad Status: Other He/him https://linktr.ee/steelcitybrad

Hey, friends! I'm Brad (he/him) and here's what you can expect:

- I post about Magic: the Gathering. Most of the time it's silly.

- Sometimes I post about board games or Kingdom Hearts or other nerdy stuff.

- @steelcitysteph.bsky.social and I stream a variety of MTG things on Twitch. ๐Ÿ”— below.
Does Flubs even need the Hermit Druid, though? ๐Ÿ˜œ
But you did like and repost the first post which is just as helpful! Thanks!

You have a commander deck that plays Demonic Consultation and/or Tainted Pact, but does not also have Thassa's Oracle.

I'm trying to make a poll on Bluesky! Check my two comments below and like each one that applies to you!

I'm curious how many EDH players run Thassa's Oracle, Demonic Consultation, and/or Tainted Pact, but not together as part of the infamous game-winning combo.

Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚
I say funny things sometimes!
Some new friends lately for @steelcitybrad.bsky.social and me!

Hi! Thanks for being here.

I encourage any of you who 1) enjoy what I post and 2) are not presently following Brad to follow him bc he's just as cool and also less annoying.

The job market is awful and I'm sorry you're stuck navigating it right now. It's not a reflection of your skill, experience, or value. These companies just aren't actually looking for the best candidate; they're just promoting people they already know.
I can choose a deck that won't shut down anyone else's or be enabled by someone else's strategy. I can choose a deck that fits a niche or a strategy not represented by the other decks. Together, we can build an interesting and dynamic game of commander simply by choosing decks that resonate.
I don't really play cEDH so I won't speak to that, but I generally think being open about your deck's game plan is good practice for all casual brackets. I enjoy choosing what deck I'm playing so that it's not only a good fit for the other players, but also for their decks.

My hair stylist's pibble Winnie is in a very important costume contest and would really appreciate if you would go to the post and like her photo in the comments so she can win a prize for being the best because she is.

I can see that, though I'm of the opinion that most commander players could afford to be more open about how their decks play regardless of their strategy.

Aggro/Voltron decks can have a play pattern that some people don't like. Better to be upfront if you don't want to risk a bad play experience.
Love me a good Starlight Spectacular. ๐ŸคŒ
This is my issue with flicker decks. So often they're built so tightly around not losing the game that all they can do is grind the game to a standstill and hope that the fact that their 2/2 commander has flying is enough to get them across the finish line in between their 20-minute turns.

Yeah, I think having an expectation that the game could end faster as you move up brackets if players don't have interaction is good, but it's definitely not a rule. My most powerful deck probably won't even attempt to win the game until turn 10+ and even then will take players out one at a time
What's funny to me is I feel like even my bracket 3+ decks aren't gonna win a game in 6 turns. My higher bracket games are more often defined by higher rates of interaction and less by a shorter turn clock.
Yikes. No thank you. Even superfriends with a win con takes FOREVER to end a game.
Something to keep in mind for these brackets is that they're conversation tools. If you're playing an aggro or voltron deck that *could* take a player out before the "correct" turn, tell the other players. These aren't supposed to be rigid. It's about aligning expectations, not defining power-level.
I had a very similar reaction. ๐Ÿ˜…
I used to build SO MANY decks whose answer to this question was "oh...uh...I dunno." Got so caught up in the synergies that I never thought to include a win condition. Glad I've learned from that; it led to more than a few uncomfortable situations.
