Eastbury Park — the grand house no one wanted.

Built in 1716 for George Dodington, designed by Sir John Vanbrugh. Dodington died before it was finished. It passed to family who had no use for it. For many years, the house stood empty. By 1800, most of the estate was gone.

I am utterly thrilled to find my piece on the aristocracy and racing on the front of today’s Racing Post – truly, little could be more thrilling! What a fun piece to write, pegged to the publication of my book HEIRS AND GRACES, a history of the modern British aristocracy

No. But did he honestly say why he wasn't living it up in the Hall with his family and friends?

I'm guessing that his income is mostly used to fund a large and extended family, including a lot of non-income producing assets (e.g. homes, collections, etc). It's amazing how quickly a family office can chew through conservatively-sourced revenue!

Perhaps they can change the photo caption to mention the holiday lets, as a subtle plug - I don't think his book sales alone are going to fund the Hall restoration!

Was the bedroom photo from Elveden Hall? It seems out of place in the article, compared to all the empty rooms, with no mention of it in the final edition.

St Patrick’s Hall in Dublin Castle is getting ready to welcome Ireland’s 10th President this November!
Go behind the scenes as chandeliers, some with over 500 pieces of crystal, are carefully lowered, cleaned, polished, & winched back into place. This painstaking process takes 2 weeks to complete!
