Columns are often at their best when they combine analysis, reporting and observations with a clear voice. Essentially, columns are reported stories with an opinion. There are other elements, for sure, but not all combine everything as well as this one by @brodymiller.bsky.social

Disappointed in USA Today for diminishing the import of this story. This is about a national security problem, not about you and me.

Remember that fans are (ahem) passionate about their teams, so report thoroughly and consider all angles before publishing stories, columns. I may or may not at least partially agree with this fan. Although not much in regards to "may not." #Yankees #NIckTurturro

So let me get this straight.

If you apply for a job at a grocery store, you have to undergo a background check.

But, if you apply to be Director of National Intelligence, you don't?

Got it.
That’s a great variation. I think Portland State is the Lumberjills vs the Lumberjacks.
Sure, inserting "Lady" in front of team nicknames is antiquated, sexist and, sometimes, demeaning. But they are also dumb. Right, *Lady* Rams?
Yes, that’s key. That often comes with both age and experience.
To vastly improve sports features, do the following:
1. Use a strong narrative voice w/fewer direct quotes.
2. Interview for information, not for quotes.
3. Ask more folo-up questions (to show, for example, how hard one trains.)
4. Focus on conflicts, challenges faced by protagonist.

Have been looking for details about today's NCAA XC results, but posts on the official website mostly did not usually include the location of the race of the D-I race – which was Madison, Wisconsin. Include time and place in all stories about live sports events. #sportswriting

Pickleball will become a HS and college sport, replacing or complementing tennis sooner than you think. The game is far more accessible, thus its wild growth – over 220% over the past 4 years. Students can jump right into #pickleball w/o years of lessons, playing OK from Day 1.
