how much do you think it would cost to generate even one on-demand movie, given how expensive it is for Sora to make ten second clips of characters kinda vaguely jabbering at each other

sufficient lobbying to make LSD and other psychedelics legal, then illegal again, funding both sides of the argument until the money runs out

I think fear plays into it a lot, too. Being wrong, having been wrong, having shaped your life because of something that you believed that was wrong, is a wretched thing to reckon with.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

IMO curiosity pairs very well with “finding delight in learning you were wrong”.

it should feel good to find a gap in what you know, because it’s another opportunity for curiosity!

When I think of A.I. I think of asbestos. To begin with everyone thought Asbestos was amazing, folk used it in everything. Then they started learning it was dangerous, research was done, they stopped using it, thou for some the damage was already done. Stop using A.I and limit the damage it's doing.

I understand why people don't do it, it's scary, it risks finding out that you were wrong, it's time consuming and tiring, etc. But like... you get one shot at this, why would you not want to understand? Spend every waking second wondering and searching and finding out?

SADDER THAN THAT

yes. yes absolutely. there are so many people who are simply incurious and i want nothing to do with them. fully agreed
somfin.bsky.social
In my personal life I have moved away from thinking of people as stupid. Instead I just think of people as "incurious," where the Doing of learning has become something they are too tired, scared, or proud to pursue. Curiosity is, I think, the greatest human virtue, the Doing of learning.

to me, Doing is a knife that must be continually honed, however small the grind wheel available to you is, because to me it's not about how sharp the knife actually is it's about the process of honing itself. if you are Doing then you are living. there are always opportunities to Do if you seek them

children in the US are being taught to read from materials written by someone who believes dyslexia doesn't exist

holy fucking shit
somfin.bsky.social
This goes a long way to explain why so many folks show up in replies having not actually read what they are replying to, though. So that's one mystery solved.

I have never once been more grateful for my own education than I was after reading that this is how kids are taught elsewhere, what the actual living fuck is this shit

We are about to enter a much, much worse world than I thought we were

That's what I'm saying- it's a belief, and an incorrect belief, but one that might cause harm by convincing people to do nothing out of doubt
somfin.bsky.social
I wonder how much harm has been caused the belief that doing good deeds for their own sake is "virtue signalling"

Katy Perry is effective, but it's Katy Counter that dishes out the real damage. Katy Dodge is a better option if you're struggling with the timing window.
