For all our new coalition members, followers, and anyone interested in the #GeneralStrike, here are some statements to share more about the strike card, who GSUS is, and how we got started.

For those who may be skeptical about demonstrating solidarity through the signing of the strike card, we want to reassure you that we have taken necessary steps and precautions for your protection. We will continue to enhance these measures as we develop and secure the resources needed. You can find our privacy policy on the General Strike U.S. website, located at the bottom of the strike card section. Additional information about the strike card is also included in our welcome packet, which can be found on our LinkTree.

The strike card serves multiple important purposes:
A physical representation of our strength in numbers and diversity
A tool for coordination
A means to measure our progress

The information requested on the strike card is typical and similar to what you would provide when filling out a petition, contacting your elected officials, or creating a social media account nothing out of the ordinary. Importantly, signing the strike card is not a requirement to participate in or contribute to this initiative. You are more than welcome to join us, support a regional chapter, or contribute resources skills and more without signing. Thank you all for taking the initial steps to advance this initiative. We appreciate your understanding and hope this addresses some of your concerns regarding the strike card.

Our comrade Eliza, a former labor organizer with the Fight for $15 campaign to raise the minimum wage took on the task of building the website. After organizing strikes of fast food workers all across the country, she became the Digital Program Director for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) in California.

Despite years spent on the frontlines organizing, she had a moment of personal radicalization in 2022 when Roe v. Wade was overturned. She couldn’t sit back while the government stripped her and other women of the rights over their own bodies. She knew we needed a General Strike, so she connected with groups who were already organizing for one.

Together, the coalition did some research and found that movements engaging in 3.5% of the population never failed to bring about change. Eliza took weeks of reading and strategizing to wrap her head around that goal: 11 million Americans. She knew we’d need a decentralized organizing model with the most advanced digital tools to be able to organize at scale. So, she got together with her friend and built the website, not with the intention of building their own organization, but rather of uniting all groups fighting for racial, economic, and environmental justice under a common cause with the potential to radically change the country.

We are thrilled you all are here and that we’re finally gaining some traction, but neither Eliza or anyone here owns the concept of a general strike - folks have been organizing with this goal in mind for HUNDREDS of years. So, let’s keep that tradition going!

This morning, I was hit in the face by a baton.

I’m going to have a pretty gnarly bruise but we need to remember why this is happening: Trump and ICE are rounding up our neighbors, treating them as subhuman, and shipping them off to labor camps in foreign countries. It has to end.

At the Chicago area ICE detention center in Broadview this morning.

These aren't detention vans—they're vehicles full of Illinois State Police. Local cops are staging for a morning of protest.

Supposedly, demonstrators will be banned from 25th St today. Fence on Beach came down a few days ago.

Yet, the average annual cost of insulin went from $2,864 in 2012 to $5,705 in 2016 to $18,000 in 2025. A 25,714% markup. That isn’t inflation or supply chain—It’s corporate greed.

Now—California will sell insulin for $11. Make this nationwide!

Cops led us into the street as the new “protest zone” and then beat us repeatedly.

Got hit in the face with a baton. Leaving to pick up my friends who were arrested.

Stay safe out there.
