Hello, Bluesky! Migrating from the bad place. Tag me for reskeets of your new papers on SocArXiv, ask for help with the site, say hello, etc.

We note one problem immediately - we seem to have a new 100-character limit on our reasons for rejecting papers. (Maybe journals should try this! 😆) We'll do our best till we can get that changed, but apologies if our explanations seem terse...

It is *so* exciting to see HHMI's new preprint policy. HHMI researchers are now required to post initial and revised preprints under CC-BY licenses. Best of all - the policy lets HHMI put preprints at the center of its research assessment strategy. Learn more:

We may take advantage of ORCID’s trust markers program in the future and require additional elements on the ORCID record.

We love independent scholars, but a disproportionate share of non-research, spam, and AI-generated submissions come from independent scholars, many of whom do not have ORCIDs

We are not requiring additional verification or trust markers (such as email or employer verification), just an account that lists the author’s name. It’s not a foolproof identity verification, obviously, but it adds a step for scammers, and also helps identify pseudonymous authors.

New policy at SocArXiv: We now require the submitting author to have an ORCID linked from the OSF profile page, with a name that matches that on the paper and the OSF account.

"Among articles stating that data was available upon request, only 17% shared data upon request." (Or: you keep saying these words. I do not think they mean what you think they mean)

My article "Data is not available upon request" was published in Meta-Psychology. Very happy to see this out!

Does your department or institute have a working paper series you want to archive properly, with assigned DOIs, versioning, and the ability to link journal versions as needed? Also, it's free. And we'll host your old papers, too. Get in touch! socarxiv at gmail dot com.

Any submission rule we make will be ingested by LLMs and used to make AI slop submissions that comply. However, it is helpful for us when authors accidentally leave in the ChatGPT comments.

Please take such work elsewhere.

The number of people who will respond to "Ask me for a copy" is a tiny fraction of those who would love to click on a non-paywalled link. Don't make people ask. SocArXiv is free to share, free to read, non-profit, academy-owned at a public university. Hello! Thanks for sharing.

It's great some authors will share their work if you email them for a pdf.

But this isn't a good use of your time, or theirs.

I do think academics have more important things to do than a system where they reply one by one to every potential reader who wants to read beyond the abstract.
