honestly the humor is another thing that inspires me. Doesn’t undercut the story or characters, natural, actually funny. ☺️

fucking hilarious to have your cousin show up unexpectedly from across vast reaches of space and be like “oh hey what’s up my man” like you bumped into someone at the bodega

I enjoyed this a great deal. I decided to just keep going, not worrying too much about the order except for a few, while I wait for my holds to come in. Next up is Brothers in Arms.

So I had to go out of order (sorry purists) but I put holds on the next few and listened to Cetaganda today. I listened uninterrupted my entire shift which means I really liked it and I’m almost done!

I really just love the character-focused writing and it deeply resonates with me creatively.

Books that make me want to write, make me eager and excited about sitting down and working through the problems and puzzles of my own work… those are really exciting.

how many of these books do I have to read to perfect the ”Niles Vorkosicrane” joke I keep turning over in my mind

Or if they were, it would be a sign of a nightmarish technolibertarian society where greed and carelessness have accelerated a culture wide death urge towards inescapable decline. so maybe more realistic than I think.

Jetpacks are the same thing, by the way. Imagine all the issues with drones but also every weekend warrior is also strapped into it. Even if it was technologically possible, it would be a logistical nightmare and they’d certainly not be legal for civilian use.

I guess they wish that flight had the same infrastructure and alleged ease of entry as cars, but that’s a feasibility, not technological, problem. And I suspect if we had built our society around flight as we have cars, we’d regret that, too.

“Antigravity” is one of those things that so much sci-fi takes for granted that no existing technology even approaches being anything like.
