I have uterine fibroids that causes excessive bleeding and fatigue, POTs and PTSD from Covid turning into long covid and causing my health problems. I was working two jobs prior to not working until it caught up to me and I ended up in the ER with a heart rate that wouldn't slow down until I had to take medication. I have been trying to get on disability since. A year later I started to caretake for my disabled child by myself as well. I had help previously but it wasn't working out and l've had to do a lot of it on my own, now I'm stuck in a situation where working isn't possible for my health and while I'm already caretaking for my disabled child that needs constant care. I did not ever envision this happening to me and have always worked hard to take care of my family but now I'm in what feels like an impossible situation trying my best to take care of my kids and myself so I can stay around for them as long as possible. I live in California which is a bit expensive but with the state of America right now I'm trying to stay where my trans child and disabled child are the safest. Any help is appreciated and keeps my kids and I surviving while waiting on disability or other options I'm pursuing to happen. I don't know what the future holds but as a mother I'm doing everything I can to keep my family together, healthy and happy. Even if it means coming online and begging for that help. Good news if you need it: Juniper made rent!!! Of course this is a temporary reprieve, but it is a reprieve, and we can all breathe a sigh of relief. If you'd all like to continue to donate to her and her kids, however, I'm sure they could still use the help, especially with the holidays coming.

What I find darkly funny about this is the fact that, taken completely out of context, writing the Lord's Prayer over images of Hegseth et al taking us to war, battle planes, armed soldiers, etc., is uh ... pretty biting commentary. Deliver us from evil, indeed.

I don't know what happened with Juniper and her kids. Last I saw, they were at $492, and the rent was due in an hour. Really hope they didn't get evicted but kinda fearing the worst :(

Also, related to this, note how young children (>10) will often pronounce names and words from a language they've never heard nearly flawlessly -- because they don't have any of the same hang-ups.

the more I suspect that there's a third reason -- refusing to pronounce someone's name correctly despite the fact that you know perfectly well that you could, because it's an easy way to signal your contempt for that person and their culture.

2. More insidiously, on some level, they do not think they actually have to, that other people from other cultures do not deserve their respect.

Whenever I encounter this phenomenon, it seems to me to originate from one of two mental blocks:

1. The person thinks they cannot, under any circumstances, pronounce anything "foreign", and that other languages -- especially spoken by brown people -- are simply too hard
