It took a little bit for me to appreciate it but now I love it. Plus, it has *books* so a lot more than just architecture. ☺️

If you don’t frequently see families with kids traveling to destinations by bike, your bike network isn’t safe enough (&/or your zoning forces sprawl & car dependency).
3 people who appear to be two parents and a child wait for a light on their bikes. They’re riding on Bryant - a sidewalk level protected bikeway

If I can use two arms to brake, signal, shift, and keep my body up, I'm sure a driver can manage to flip a lever while they're straining to move their foot from one pedal to another.

Agreed, even aggressive drivers are at least somewhat worried about scratching their paint. Distracted drivers just don't care

I really wish we expressed speed in short-distance-per-short-interval: 44 feet per second sounds a lot scarier than 30mph. That one second phone glance is the same as running over 8 people laid out head-to-toe.

I've been out in Seattle almost 20 years. The larches and maples change but many other trees just go brown, or are evergreen.

Along with thunderstorms, fall colors are one of the things I miss from the Midwest.

Yeah, that's probably a bit outside my inertia class...

How hard would it (hypothetically) be to push the barrier out into the car lane?

"First, you get in your car. Then it's easy!"

And in general the 30% of the population who cannot drive.

Also, only a RapidRide route and a bunch of other bus options right there, no parking required

Deep dive into the surge in US pedestrian deaths:

"It’s not that more pedestrians are getting hit by vehicles; it’s that the ones that are getting hit are more likely to die."

"[That] seems like fairly strong evidence for the theory that the rise in large SUVs is behind the uptick in ped deaths."
Why Are So Many Pedestrians Killed by Cars in the US?
It’s unfortunately not uncommon for pedestrians to be killed by cars in the US.

Maybe we should make insurance cost proportional to vehicle weight and maximum speed?

As an inhaler user who can't drive, I really dislike this reporting. Guess I might as well let my asthma run rampant so I can't bike, and figure out how a car works.

But where will the drivers drive and cars park?!

This is one of our favorite movies. It's easy to watch as a parable for imperialism even though it definitely wasn't filmed with that intent

Yet drivers somehow keep playing the "war on cars" victim card

The only time I've been hit (fortunately lightly) was a side-swipe by a Rivian driver pulling out of a parking space in a school zone. I was already in front of the driver wearing reflective gear, front and back lights and reflectors, but she said she didn't see me. Should I be a bigger narcissist?

Apparently the fact that I need this to breathe doesn't enter into this calculation, nor the fact that the "cheapest" inhaler I can use is already almost $300/mo w/o insurance (thankfully I do). Maybe we should ask drivers to drive only when needed? #weekwithoutdriving

The people who are most vulnerable to the hard-to-breathe air that comes with climate change may inadvertently be adding to the problem, new research finds. https://cnn.it/4pWQMoh

I agree, though a lot of them embraced it years/decades ago but hid it well enough no one knew.

Also, even though you can't report parking violations like this using FIFI anymore, you can call parking enforcement @ 206-625-5011, wait 50 seconds, press 8, then press 1. Have license plate, vehicle info, and location ready, and definitely mention the safety hazard posed by the vehicles.

Aren't their parking lots just to the left that these fine drivers could have used?
