And the decision will have been that it is a book which the character would have on her shelf. I should think taken by the art director in consultation with the director/writer and, if they have any sense, with the actor.

With my apologies.

If you'd rather read about an Edinburgh house through time - or are inspired so to do by what will certainly be a fascinating programme - do try 10 Scotland Street; an opinionated history of one house over two centuries.

You have all heard of Alan Turing, who did not invent Colossus*, the first programmable computer?

80% of Bletchley Park staff were women. Most of whom are unnamed. They deserve as much recognition #ALD25

* That was Tommy Flowers, but that's another story.

This is the first time in 15 years that I'm running Ada Lovelace Day without also putting on a big event in London, and I have to admit, it feels kinda weird.

If you have a minute, please share a story of your favourite woman in STEM with the hashtag #ALD25.

Growing at the base of a Rowan I planted as a wee thing 50 years ago. It appears in good fettle though had fire blight some years ago which was dealt with by a professional arborist. Lots of fine fruit this year. It's still doing its job keeping the witches away.

My family and I are, I am afraid, guilty of intentionally missing trains , lured by that champagne bar. It's an amazing station. Have you done the tour?
skylinefilm.bsky.social
Of course it would. And while we're at it, the Clyde commuter ferries.....?

Small note: if you buy one ticket on the Glasgow subway the kind person in the ticket office will put some kind of spell on your furth-of-Glasgow 60+ concession card which provides free travel for the rest of the day.

Absolutely love this post. Another example why we need to study history from the bottom up, not necessarily top down.

Young Citz celebration of the Close Theatre 1965-1973 last night was superb. The spirit of 65 was there - and a commitment to live, innovative theatre. One other survivor from the '65 cohort and I were very moved. A huge welcome difference was the gender balance. Thank you once again Citizen's.

Been singing the mezzo line of this since I was 15. Helen Burness Cruikshank was a suffragette, a committed Scottish nationalist, and a founder member of the Scottish branch of the writers’ organisation PEN.
1886-1975. Good Bio here www.scottishpoetrylibrary.org.uk/poet/helen-c...
Helen Cruickshank
The poet Helen Cruickshank did much to promote, popularise, and chronicle the Scottish Literary Renaissance movement in the middle years of the 20th century.
