the breaker panel has nothing to do with us, that would be the state of new york and whatever electricians they hired, but they also hired us so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
sketchmaster.bsky.social
no definitely not. its a much more rinky dink operation than that. its a front end for a building automation system. I think they told me its basically just a weekly test of the failure procedure, which idk why you have to test it that often, if at all. it creates so many problems and solves none.

this is what happens when you put mechanics in charge of computer
sketchmaster.bsky.social
and the backup is online just as much as the main one! they just switch which one is connected to the front end.
sketchmaster.bsky.social
yeah exactly. with mechanical equipment, it extends the life of each component because you're not constantly running one of them 24/7/365. with a server there's not really much physical wear and tear.

they do this at my new job and im astounded as to why they think it's necessary. creates a potential point of failure every week for no benefit as far as i can tell.

hey ppl who work in tech

you ever heard of "lead/lag" servers? where you have a server and its backup, and every week you swap the two so the backup becomes the main and vice versa?

this is common with mechanical equipment like pumps and boilers, but ive never heard of anyone doing it with servers

y'all...

turns out it's not just the main breaker that's upside down. the entire panel is upside down. so circuit 1 in the panel is circuit 42 on the control system, 2 is 41, 3 is 40, 4 is 39, etc. No wonder their lighting schedules don't work right.

Freddy Peralta was one out away from his first career postseason quality start, one frame after reportedly pleading to Pat Murphy to let him pitch the sixth.

Instead, Max Muncy ends his night by taking him deep.
