October, what is more fitting for October than werewolves? Perhaps werewolves that are even more monstrous than usual?

🎨 - In addition to the assets, I had @salemlynx.bsky.social sketch some journal pages for some lore/speculative biology about the Brimstone variant, and they did a fantastic job! Enjoy!

Journal page 1 for the Brimstone Chlorokit shows a headshot illustration of a floppy eared Chlorokit with large caprine horns curled back around and under their ears. Mountains sit below them. The text reads:

“The Brimstone variant of the Chlorokit is characterized by larger horns, leathery wings instead of feathered wings, hooves for navigating their environment, and long, thin tails with a collection of bone and keratin at their tip. This variant is typically found on mountainous islands with a history of volcanic activity, and sparse, low lying vegetation.” “The three main adaptions that help the Chlorokit to thrive within these isolated environments are the hooves, tail, and wings. Analogous to the mountain goat, the Brimstone variant features two hooved toes at the end of each leg that can help scale rough, rocky mountains and access food sources or shelter that would otherwise be inaccessible without these features. The structure of these hooves is identical to other caprine species, with two smaller protrusions per leg on the ankle behind each toe.

The tail of the Brimstone variant is long, slender, and matches the benefits of the hooves. The tail moves swiftly to balance the user over difficult terrain, and appears to be somewhat prehensile. Several Brimstone Chlorokits have been spotted with their tails curled around supplies they're carrying up mountains, leaving their hands free. These tails are much more sparsely furred than the other variants' tails, and most of the embedded flora is limited to the base of the tail. At the tip of the tail for the Brimstone variant is a small boney protrusion that has a larger mass of keratin (the same material that horns, hair, or fingernails are made of). The shape of this protrusion varies by individual, though typically they take on a spade-like shape, with either rounded or sharp corners. This growth appears to be mostly cosmetic, although it is possible that it helps assist the Brimstone Chlorokit with climbing or in self defense.

The wings are made of a leathery material, similar to bat wings. While functionally similar to the other feathered Chlorokit variants, it is theorized that due to their island environments, these wings developed in order to help the Chlorokit better manage their body heat. In structure, they are composed of a main limb with multiple fingers coming off a hand-like structure. Each finger is joined in a thin, skin-like material with blood flowing through it. A vestigial claw is present on the "thumb" on top of the hand.” The final page shows multiple Brimstone variants with different combinations of horns, ears, and flora. The text reads:

“Jewelry
The horns of the Brimstone variant are composed of a short, bone core protruding from the skull, and a larger keratin shell that forms out from the bone. This keratin shell can either curve around the head and face forwards, in a loop appearance, or curve up towards the sky. While these two are the most common, other variations are possible. While the extra size compared to other Chlorokits may be primarily cosmetic, it is possible that the larger horns do provide mild protection against falls when climbing.

A notable behavior among Brimstone Chlorokits is the importance of jewelry. They are seldom seen without some kind of metallic band on their horns or tail, and seem to deeply enjoy metalworking. The presence of precious earth metals and iron-rich stone of the islands they are found on makes them natural smiths. Those that have worked forges for a while seem to have developed scale-like patches on their limbs and other exposed parts of their body, though this adaptation is relatively rare.

Other observations on the Brimstone Chlorokit are still ongoing.”
