Teaching @pornsak.bsky.social & Alexander Tefengki’s “The Good Asian” and going to use this thread on Angel Island tomorrow. Thank you.

Just returned from SF where I went with my cousins & their kids to explain the history of Angel Island immigrant landing depot. It's an island off of SF, look how close it is to SF, yet for detained immigrants who were there, it was a world away to getting to the US. Was in operation 1910-1941. 1/

I’m teaching @pornsak.bsky.social & Alexandre Tefengki’s “The Good Asian,” and the first issue takes place partly in Angel Island in 1936. It’s a great series dealing with The Chinese Exclusion Act and more.

Not shocked in that region, and the company only has a 3.5 rating.

Greg Bovino, Kristi Noem, and DHS need to answer for their unchecked attacks on Chicago residents.

ICE is an out-of-control danger to our peaceful communities.

The images from the Sun-Times today speak for themselves.
An ICE agent throws a tear gas canister at protesters at East 105th Street and South Avenue N in East Side.

@massgovernor.bsky.social Just want to say thank you for taking a few minutes to chat with my 12-year-old son today who is visiting Boston from Georgia with his grandfather. It made his day. Hope he didn’t bombard you with too many questions!

I proclaim that Ernest Gaines’ “Of Love and Dust” is the the most important American novel of the 20th century.

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

This Banned Books Week Thursday, we’ll take a look at Strange Fruit. This book was published in 1944 and almost immediately banned in Boston and Detroit, on the basis of “obscenity.” That charge, ostensibly, was based on one profanity and a few lines of sexual content. (1/3)
Cover of Strange Fruit, a novel by Lillian Smith. The cover shows a black woman and a white Nan together, divided by flames from a small town.
