Thank you. If there was ever a moment in time to learn from history. The Miep Gies episodes were great.
The next region in New Zealand I’ll look at is the Wellington region. Wellington is the New Zealand capital, and the greater Wellington region has a population of ~430K, third largest in the country behind Auckland and Christchurch. 1/ 🧪

! Dike intrusion started in Sundhnúksgígaröð.

Tall mountains and tiny flowers. Gorgeous little South Island edelweiss hiding between rocks. Another amazing day around Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park during the GNS Science GNSS/GPS field campaign

Had a stunning day “at the office” in the Southern Alps. Annual GNS Science GNSS/GPS campaign, this year in the central South Island.

Yes one cow damaged cable already. And there was a kea just waiting for us to leave at one site. Good thing I took plenty of antenna cables with us :)

oh I think I know that site, scramble up the hill? I had Chris once help me take it down and our heart almost left out chest as there was a black bear watching us with lots of interest. The teip back down was very fast.

yeah, unfortunately they had destroyed one of the stations. But I quickly forgave them, far too cute.

Back in the South Island for some GNSS fieldwork. Today we drow down to Kaikoura.

I am very very jealous that this family on Prince Edward Island (Canada) had a small meteor hit their sidewalk and managed to catch it on their door cam in what is likely the first audio and visual recording of a meteor strike!

awesome job :) I didn’t spot me on the list yet, might have been eaten by the glitchmonster (or maybe I just missed it)

End of year hike at Patuna Chasm. NZ summer.
It’s a dark day for research in Aotearoa New Zealand and the ramifications for the country are huge. Minister Judith Collins has just announced our blue-skies funder will no longer fund humanities & social science research and that 50% of what is funded must have economic benefit.

Had an awesome last day of the 2024 #GSNZ conference, fieldtrip to learn about Dunedin’s Volcanic Geology which included a visit to Quarantine Island. Many thanks to Ayla, Marco and James

Wasn’t expecting to see the aurora from my balcony in Wellington region NZ but we did.

oh I was hoping for some action too but didnt hear anything but the wind. Then realized we must have had a lot of horizontal rain. Everything soaking wett where I forgot to close windows.

Fieldwork photo of the day, NZ is full of surprises

Well I guess, since I made an account, I might as well share couple of field photos from today.
