This all reminds me of the attitude many churches take to queer people. Welcome and unwelcome, belonging but only under certain conditions, valued but only within harsh and cruel parameters, required to give so much of themselves for so little in return, and expected to be grateful for the crumbs.

It's the first time I've been out with our expert beekeepers, it was fascinating!

Living my best life today.
A woman in a white beekeeping suit. Her hands are on her hips and she is smiling.

I know it's uncultured of me, but it really does look like it's made of LEGO...

This is the best product listing copy I’ve ever read
Nothing lasts forever, and that includes the Roman Empire.

The Fall of Rome-Scented Candle smells like cypress trees and red wine. Light it and watch the Roman forum melt into a puddle of wax while you quietly contemplate the impermanence of civilizations and/or candles.

Do you think individual Romans understood that their civilization was collapsing? Or did it happen so gradually that they were able to ignore the warning signs—international trade breaking down, the senate becoming a rubber stamp for the supreme leader, and political violence becoming expected during transfers of power?

It’s hard to say, because it’s impossible to imagine being in that kind of situation. In any event—hope you enjoy the candle!

Same. The longer they're left up, the more it feels like they've been left deliberately for when the next horrendous pandemic hits.

The 2020s equivalent is going to be all the social distancing/'queue here'/'one way pavement' signs and markings that don't look like they're ever going to be removed...

Week off. Time to read my ordination gift from @frgiacbelloli.bsky.social.

The front cover of a hardback book, Don't Forget We're Here Forever by Lamorna Ash. The book is yellow, with illustrations round the edge of a blue centreplate reminiscent of medieval illustrated manuscript.

The butterfly bush has been living up to its name!

#bloomscrolling
Side profile of a white butterfly with a small black spot on the tip of its wing. The butterfly is resting on a spray of purple flowers, in front of some greenery.

Some nice #Bloomscrolling in the garden today!
A number of small purple flowers with a bumble bee feeding on them. The bumble bee's wings show some detail. Behind the flowers there are blurred green plants and a fence. I'm slowly recovering from the intensity (and the heat!) of the past few days. The whole experience has been simultaneously breathtaking and inspiring. Particularly grateful to @scholarpriest.bsky.social for taking this picture of me at the altar during my first mass.
An altar, behind which I the priest am stood in a red chasuble with arms outstretched and eyes closed. To the left is a woman with dark hair wearing a white alb and red stole worn as a deacon. The wall behind is cream, with sunrays shining off it, and high up on the wall is a large wooden cross with jagged ironwork over the top.

We left our toddler alone for literally 2 minutes. In that time, said toddler ate a stick of chalk, threw up chunks of chalk, and had just started eating the chunks. When I walked in, she smiled and pointed at the chalk vomit. Good grief.

Appealing to 'The Christian West' and 'Judeo-Christian values' (excuse me while I dry-heave...) is a great way to signal to people that you support their anti-modernist cultural imperialism without having to actually believe in or do anything yourself. The cheapest of discipleships.
