I’m mid-30s, live in London, and worked book retail for 16 years and these days I work customer support for book retail.

I’m aro/ace, I’ve a fun range of mental health problems and my favourite hobbies include napping and tea.

It went on for a surprisingly long amount of time because they believed the problem was a lack of imagination on our side and we could do it if we WANTED because, again, AI said we could.

Someone contacted us the other day because AI had told them that we would publish their book. We explained we're not a publisher. They were furious because AI had told them we'd do it. We explained we literally can't. They asked us to check with management because AI said we could do this.

Yeppppp. I’ve learned my lesson as I haven’t particularly enjoyed most of the fancy edition books so I’ll read it on kindle or as a standard edition and then decide if I want to track down a special one. I’ve only got space for books I truly love!!

The veneration of Books As Objects misses the point entirely. If you're reading a book, turn the corners down, break the spine, spill soup on it. It's your book, go nuts. A pristine, unread book is a tragedy in a way that a beloved, much-read book that looks like the dog's been at it could never be.

Yeah, as someone working in book retail I spend most of my days dealing with people angry and/or upset about various aspects of these fancy editions they're not going to read, and it's making me quite tired.

Maybe my current book opinion is that this thing where books are being purchased as purely decorative objects that will never be read is not new, but they're still made of paper and thus it's very hard to have one that looks untouched by human hand, and also, it's sad they'll never ever be read

Okay spit is not my thing so that doesn’t help but the journey from “I don’t know how up touch you” to “tip your head back so I can spit in your mouth” was not very far at all and I’m being prudish and disapproving.

I wasn’t particularly enjoying this gently supernatural romance novel I’m reading on kindle unlimited but I’m nearly done. But the male protagonist has gone from “can we take this slow as I’ve only been with 2 women and I want to be good” to spitting in her mouth the first time they shag.
