Who else thinks Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and others should broadcast from Canada?

Ethics, values and trust might seem old fashioned in a Trumpian world. A new issue of Politics and Governance edited by Cristine de Clercy and Susan Dieleman on Ethics, Democracy & Political Leadership explores multiple examples. www.cogitatiopress.compoliticsandgovernance/issue/view/425

The scholarship starts in January, but the work has already started. Plans are in place for case studies, workshops and a special issue of Politics and Governance to be prepared next year and published in 2027. Excited and grateful for this opportunity!

I’m delighted to share that I’ve been awarded a one-year scholarship at the @balsillieschool.bsky.social under the Technology and Governance Initiative! The project works with academics, industry & government to find alternatives to US products, services and tech between Canada, Europe & East Asia.

Sounds familiar.
I have co-authors who are cancelling planned trips. We are already viewed as a police state and this is doing incredible and long-lasting damage to scholarly work (and the International standing of the nation these folks claim to care about)
I absolutely know of cases where non-US scholars no longer want to travel to the US, and US green card holders don't want to risk leaving the country. There is a real sense of fear.

"A visa holder is unexpectedly absent from an academic meeting. Texting reveals that this person is ill. There is a general relief: the fear was that this person would be in a Louisiana prison." adamprzeworski.substack.com/p/diary?utm_...

Would not be surprised if other US.-based financial services for Europeans follow suit, if the trend grows.

Spot on analysis. Europe’s greatest obstacle to defending itself is…itself. Unwilling to rise above nationalism, fragmentation and over-reliance on the US.
It is possible for Europe to defend itself and Ukraine without the United States—but how Washington “chooses to shift the burdens of the war onto Europe will shape what the Europeans can accomplish,” writes Jack Watling.

The continent’s risky task of keeping Kyiv in the fight—and defending itself.

Every time a US politician says 51st state, ask how their home state is doing. It’s probably pretty awful. #Canada #Canadastrong

In preview of my Monday morning piece, I'm going to say a little bit about why this is so concerning. This is not some "economy" thing. Its first & foremost the possibility that our legal order is modified so the law of the land is defined by Elon Musk at Treasury

Is the European Central Bank losing its independence by getting too political? Our new open access highlights how the ECB’s increasing involvement in crises and political issues has led to debates about its legitimacy and the need for stronger accountability.

New Gender Update out in @ejpgjournal.bsky.social. With data from the new wave of the EES, I show a strong increase in support for the far right among young voters. Especially the share of young men who consider voting for the far right has exploded.
