A1 I value relationships, authenticity, unique perspectives, productive struggle, growth mindset, community, communication, lived math experiences and hard math. I have only ever taught students with disabilities and together we all learn to value all the things above! #ElemMathChat

Q1: What do you value in your math classrooms? What do you think your students with disabilities would say they value? #ElemMathChat

If we = them, if we are doing math WITH students (not TO students), the access isn't given as much as it's never taken away from the beginning. #ElemMathChat

We had such a great time at the LACOE neurodiversity summit talking about math for everyone. As always @talknumber2me.bsky.social did an amazing job organizing it. she even made potato chips with my book on it. Definitely the coolest professional gift I have ever gotten. ♾️
Two women, a beautiful black woman smiling wearing a blue and gold jacked and a white woman smiling earring pink stripes. Both are holding potato chip packages that have the book cover to rethinking disability and mathematics
Love this❣️ Very hopeful
being an indie bookseller in the helltimes has felt both very stable and very stabilizing, and part of me wishes everyone could be on my side of the counter for a little while, because I think it would help some of you be a little less cynical and doomy right now. so here is my VERY anecdotal data:
Happy it’s Friday and happy thinking back to yesterday’s Neurodiversity Summit with Rachel Lambert, mathematizing4all.com , @suzannehuerta.bsky.social , Susan De Matta, Jessica Mejia and #LACOE STEM Math and Special Ed units ~ Nice learning w/ @LincolnMiddleSM educators @mathematize4all.bsky.social

Here is a thought

Called to compassion” in math education means recognizing each student’s unique journey, valuing their thinking, & creating spaces where they feel seen & heard. When we teach with compassion, we foster confidence, agency, & a love for learning.
#MathEquity #iTeachMath #EduSky
Went to a conference 3 weeks ago. The theme was “called to compassion”. I am still thinking about what I experienced and connecting to everyday life and math.

Any thoughts?
