published 2014. red wine so not teetotal quite but this doesn't seem like the regimen of a dude who's cooking his brain on soviet deicer. he's cooking his brain on soviet anabolic steroids
segyges.bsky.social
yes. but he's known to be pretty uptight and serious about his own health, albeit sort of into the experimental/weird shit. bryan johnson but less performative
segyges.bsky.social
it's not really better if he's this insane without being on drugs, but it does sort of tell you what type of trajectory you can expect
segyges.bsky.social
this has been the gag and i think it's convincing that he'd be on testosterone and hgh, does anyone have any good case that peter thiel is on normal drugs? he's a long-time health nut and he's always been insane. he might be SV's only teetotaller

"This is your brain on cocaine, twelve unregulated testosterone-like substances, and the methylated trans-isometer of a Soviet de-icing agent rejected for excessive toxicity in sled dogs".
jamellebouie.net
oh this guy is delusional delusional
segyges.bsky.social
in general yes. thiel specifically is his own brand of insane and it's not clear if traditional drug abuse is part of the mix. almost for sure on steroids and other such nonsense that bends your brain though
segyges.bsky.social
entirely possible but i would find it moderately surprising. he's always been nuts. this is just the same but worse. and i am usually pretty eager to assume everyone's on drugs

This imagery was staring us in the face this whole time…
Rorschach with a red circle drawn around his fedora
segyges.bsky.social
ie, they are primarily selling "the experience of being on the platform", not the end result the user thinks they want but empirically does not
segyges.bsky.social
how long ago was this? i get the strong impression the industry has learned that users do not want people they actually get along with and does not even attempt to do this any more
segyges.bsky.social
yeah the dumbest solution is just to put the two LLMs into chat and see if they gel. no muss no fuss. we had two simulated people and we simulated them at each other
segyges.bsky.social
i think it's, ahahahah, a rorschach test. everyone is fatally flawed. everyone is (sometimes) sort of heroic. you pick which character you think is important and meaningful

"Later, he was to decide that Andrew’s life had been fractally weird. That is, you could take any small piece of it and examine it in detail and it, in and of itself, would turn out to be just as complicated and weird as the whole thing in its entirety."

yeah, it's real unclear how well this transfers out of pure text. it can probably predict successfully scheduling a first date i guess
segyges.bsky.social
i would expect it to be aware of when i would find the other person annoying vs keep talking to them
segyges.bsky.social
you could definitely predict if we got along in a text conversation given this, i think. it does do a pretty good job of having my energy in chat
segyges.bsky.social
upset that i cannot post "Adrian Veidt did nothing wrong" as bait now because Peter fucking Thiel beat me to it
segyges.bsky.social
i'm voting for "downstream of ACX comments section" honestly. the careless allusions are pure acx
segyges.bsky.social
he used to write like a phil major with a chip on his shoulder. now he writes like he's guest-posting on ACX
segyges.bsky.social
i am mostly thinking of this because his entire, shitty style here reminds me of scott alexander and curtis yarvin here
segyges.bsky.social
there is literally an llm that mostly simulates me out there because it ended up with about 100k messages of mine in its finetuning set. i am pretty sure if you had 100k messages from someone else and ran the two against each other it would highly predict if we got along

inasmuch as an LLM is "the product currently sold by openai, google and anthropic via an API" this is correct. inasmuch as an LLM is a general method of distilling statistical regularities from language i think it would actually be pretty good at matchmaking using this process given sufficient text

fundamentally Peter Thiel has been reading a lot of blogs and he writes and speaks like a mid-tier blogger now. just free association of sort of interesting stuff that sympathetic people will consume as insight porn. not intended to be subject to real analysis. you know. slop

I just don't understand the desire to use the antichrist as a metaphor in this way when you're going to detach it from any biblical analysis at all and talk about comics and manga.
