SB 497 helps ensure trans people, or their families or physicians, who are being persecute via hate laws in other state can come here & that we will not honor subpoenas, extradition requests, etc., unless the U.S. Constitution compels us to do so.

SB 497 strengthens a law I authored in 2022 — California’s trans state of refuge law (SB 107). SB 497 provides that California will not enforce hate laws in other states or federally unless it is constitutionally required to do so.

SB 59 makes confidential court records of name & gender marker changes by trans people. This will reduce the risk of doxxing & harassment by bad actors, whether in the federal government or other states. SB 59 is a big step toward protecting trans people’s privacy.

Today’s return of the kidnapped Israeli hostages held by Hamas is a glimmer of hope in a true disaster.

We must ensure the ceasefire holds. Israel’s devastation of Gaza — with the Israeli military’s killing of so many Palestinians — must not resume.

The only solution is peace.

SB 63 is critical to avoid massive service cuts at Muni, BART, Caltrain & other systems. We need to stabilize & modernize these systems for the Bay Area’s future.

SB 79 was 8 years in the making, with earlier versions not passing in 2018, 2019, and 2020. Perseverance pays off.
