An interesting idea for the next “No Kings” day would be to have protests outside of the diners Fox News and the NYT visited during Trump 1 and Biden’s terms. Like, 500 people protesting outside of a diner in Des Moines would be an interesting visual.
Not trying to fanboy but that is also some very President coded posture. “Yeah I’m here listening to military guys but I am not going to invade Afghanistan because they tell me to.”
Right and I think that underscores what Will’s whole point here is- we should be more accepting of people across the movement. The CRM was very accepting of people joining at their level of commitment. and Through that acceptance more people became highly committed.
yes of course outputs are important. But outputs are made of inputs. So, again, what were the inputs that made it possible to have the outputs that the movement wanted?
This is a very subtle thing, but walking up to the lectern, or sitting at that desk in his last ad, make him look just a little more serious and mayoral without losing any of the charm that he had from the beginning. its like he is teaching New Yorkers to see him as the mayor. It’s so smart.
The wildest part is that sign is PRINTED. This is a big enough deal that they went to Kinkos or used a huge printer that they rarely use. Thats just hilarious.
I think we are talking about two different things- the outputs of the movement and the movement itself. There’s no denying that the outputs of the movement are incredibly significant because of how it changed lives. But how was the movement itself significant? How was it successful?
The entire budget of USAID - plus about $5 billion- was spent in an illegal transfer to Argentina. Millions are going to die and there will be no benefit to the US.
At present, I don’t think anyone is really arguing that the civil rights movement of the 1950s-the late 1960s has been more significant. But again that hasn’t been the question. so again, why do you think it was more significant?
Well see that doesn‘t make a lot of sense. The substance of the movement was, essentially, the same at the beginning of the movement as it was at the end. and It wasn’t impactful at the beginning! But maybe I can rephrase - which of those factors made it successful?
And USAID would NEVER give that much money all at once to one country- it would go to NGO’s, contractors, etc who could be held accountable for progress. That $40 million will be lost with accountability.
I know that you mean he hopes to extend this term to an authoritarian dictatorship, but it’s also funny to think of him haunting the ballroom like the Phantom of the Opera.
“you want to discuss the legality and morality of murdering people on boats with little not no oversight or evidence they are doing anything illegal? What is this, the Abbie Hoffman debate society?!? Next question, please.”
This may be 4-D chess or wishful thinking, but there is likely a LOT of specific evidence that will help to prove very specific, very punishable crimes, like improper use of government funds, Hatch Act violations, etc. Thats what will get the B Tier goons, (and the A tier goons after pardons.)
