I think I could work my way into doing more humanoid stuff that felt worth exploring, but I dont feel more compelled to do that than other ideas right now.
Ive just had a hard time figuring out how to do this stuff in a way that people like or respond to, esp given my tastes with it are a lil weird.
sasharjones.bsky.social
I'm sure glad I forced myself to go through the awkward process of learning to draw humans back in early high school! I actually did more of an inverse pivot where I was doing mostly humans for many years.
I still sometimes draw humanoid stuff, but not much in part bc I mostly sell to furries.

Important update: Echo and I will not be at #BLFC as planned. Alt txt/ img for details.
Hi everyone, life update from Laughing Coyote Homestead.
Not only are we grieving the loss of several members of our chicken flock, including beautiful Brave, a rooster I raised from hatching 5 years ago, but life has thrown us an even harder curve ball.
Last night, moments after we pulled our 8-year anniversary pie out of the oven, Echo and I noticed our cat, Nebby, in distress. Turns out that the coolest, sweetest cat in the world had his very first bout of urinary crystals. The night before we were to leave on a 2 day road trip to BLFC. We must attend conventions to pay our bills-- and they're our only chance to see many of our found family and closest friends-- but now, we have to stay home. We must watch over Nebby, administer meds, and find ways to increase his fluid intake to prevent this from happening in the future. I knew male cats struggled with this problem, but even my best at prevention wasn't enough. It is what it is.
We must allow ourselves to love, even if it hurts sometimes. So. What this means for us is we'll be working harder to make cool art from home, running sales and maybe streams and opening commissions, so we can make it through to January for Further Confusion. (We may not even get selling tables there, either, but will shoot for what we can.) Our life is a financial hopscotch from convention to art fair to convention, and missing a step is going to be quite a leap indeed.

If you appreciate what Echo and I do, whether it be the experimental art, farming, local political activism, or what have you, now would be a fantastic time to help. There’s also lots of inexpensive digital downloads on my PayHip, where you can get crafts to make, sketchbook compilations, and ebooks. Anything helps to recoup the cost of needing to miss a huge chunk of our yearly income. Thank you for your support: the only reason our studio runs at all is because of you. And now it's time to get to work! Stay tuned for announcements for shop sales and commission openings.

Yes, all of the hare itself is posca, though there is a layer of slightly cloudy medium between the larger initial black shapes and a finer-lined layer of black detail on top.

"Black Posca Hare", ~4" x 7" posca paint pen on collage-primed reclaimed wood panel
This piece really is where I hit my stride during the art jam I did this time last year! I knew I was getting into something cool with these big abstracted shapes and interlocking mark-making.
Original sold.
A portrait of a black hare facing the viewer, rendered in paint pens. Shards of turquoise, orange, red and ivory peek through in the figure, and blocky white shapes carve out the hare's silhouette, sometimes cutting through it. Two different types of collaged paper show through behind the artwork.

In order to show up as a good organizer, youe going to have to do your personal homework. You are going to have to view it as an ongoing, life-long endeavor to understand your way around your own ego and how to set it aside.
Otherwise you will get caught up in infighting instead of shared struggle.

looking into the article, important part to it is this was initiated by italian unions, making it possible to organize such action at all. which reinforces for what and why such union restrictions exist in america. keeping labor down doesn't just generate wealth, it also suppresses other movements.

Seeing this message getting reposted via ai-slop motivated me to make it better so here you go

Glad to hear it is useful! The thing about the ego's attachment to feeling bad was especially highlighted by a good friend of mine earlier this year-- I especially remember it because they described it as a sort of "gnashing around" or something like that.
sasharjones.bsky.social
Remember that sometimes the way ego rears its head is as self-pity. The attachment to feeling bad or pathetic in some special way-- by being cruel to yourself in ways you would never be to your friends.
It's a hard vortex to get out of but so so crucial to learn how to recognize and escape from.

You can delay capitalisms contradictions but you cannot stop them unless you get rid of the whole system. They will always reveal themselves. They will come back

"Red Dragon", 4" x 5" mixed media on gesso-primed reclaimed bamboo flooring panel.

A fun piece from last year! This felt like really hitting my stride w/ the mixed media materials I've been picking up, namely poscas and wax pastels in this case.

Prints available at sasharjones.com/store/red-dr...

Suffering bad burn out again. Some things gotta change in order for me to stop winding up in this position every 8 months or so, and we are working on figuring that out.

In the mean time, if I'm slow to respond or otherwise behind on a thing, feel free to give me a nudge.

Thanks for your patience.

🔹 special power 🔹
mixed media painting

this piece was an expression of a desire, almost a prayer— to find your special power, your inner reserve of potential, or the power to make change in yourself or the world around you, to hold that capability in your hand in and in your heart.
A painting of a hooded anthro figure crouching down and grounding their clawed palm on the ground in a powerful gesture, with light and color flowing up through their arm. The drawing of the figure is simple and gestural, but rich with texture and atmosphere.

Giorgia Meloni, Italy's PM, is a far right fascist who supports Israel, but the general strike Italians carried out 2 days ago scared the shit out of her. Strikes are the most effective way to get politicians to do what you want them to do. Shut down profit and they stand to attention.

🔹 Entropy 🔹
9" x 12" mixed media on reclaimed panel.

Probably my most important painting from last year. A wolf made of falling apart, a radical and fierce acceptance of the decay and change of self, of becoming a part of everything else.

Original sold, prints available: sasharjones.com/store
A painting of a wolf's face staring straight on at the viewer with an intense expression. Sharp strips of color make up the face of the wolf, but as those strips radiate away from the center, they lose form, as though the wolf is coming apart.

normalizing mask wearing makes criminalization, from this kind of surveillance to mask bans, way harder. you wearing a respirator to the grocery store, on transit, in healthcare is a practice of solidarity with the most marginalized in your community on more than one level.

A problem with most people thinking COVID-19 is no longer a threat is that I just had a weird loss prevention dude follow me around a grocery store (occasionally coughing) because he could not fathom that anyone wearing a face mask (despite me also using a cane)- wasn't nefarious. We're in a surge.
