Happy Halloween! And oldie that always makes me laugh
I made these Indian-ish nachos for the Dodger game. The ratios are a little off (went with less cheese, less onion, more beans), but very tasty Dodgers game food. Plus margaritas, of course

POSITION PLAYER PITCHING
If this goes to a 13th, I think first basemen should pitch: Freddie Freeman vs. Vlad Guerrero Jr.
I am running on 4 hours of sleep. Someone needs to fucking win this baseball game already
You know people who were drunk earlier are sobering up now/that hangover is hitting
Every food and drink vendor at Dodger Stadium has been closed since the ninth inning btw

David’s song “ICE Too Cold To Thaw” is out now. You can buy it via bandcamp (nodevotionrecords.bandcamp.com/album/ice-to...) or get the vinyl and print (/400) by Shepard Fairey and Tomo77, signed by both David J. and Fairey. A portion of the proceeds will go to the USC Gould Immigration Clinic
Right. So either journalists whose beat isn’t traditionally climate need to educate themselves very quickly or they need to walk over to the climate desks (while they still exist) and collaborate with their colleagues. It’s vital they offer readers context for events.
…bc they may offer information one does not have. But there was some slight dissension about whether to include the response if it is misinformation. Personally, I think the best practice is to bookend the quote: say it is untrue, share the comment, then explain why it is incorrect.
And it might actually be a dereliction of duty for journalists to *not* mention this relationship.

The panel also talked about getting comments from the sort of adversaries of a story—government officials, polluters. Everyone agreed it is important to reach out for comment…
This NYU panel reminded me of this. I know I have said this a lot, but one way to get people to care about climate change is showing how it impacts the issues they do rate as their top priorities or care about, like immigration, national security, food and insurance prices, health, sports, etc.
NYC friends: This Thursday, NYU is hosting a discussion on the ethics of covering climate change in this political moment.

I'll be tackling some of the beat's thorniest questions with @sominisengupta.bsky.social, @insideclimatenews.org's David Sassoon, & @danfagin.bsky.social.

Register and come!!

At times intersectionality can be somewhat of a dirty word, eliciting eye rolls. I do think that it can go too far—the dreaded omnicause. Not every issue is related and some attempts at making them appear so can be ham-fisted. But when it comes to climate change, many issues can be traced back.

I love voting in Los Angeles. Ballots are mailed to all registered voters and can be returned via USPS, a drop box or a polling location, or one can vote in-person at *any* voting center in LA County. And one can sign up for texts and emails with updates on the ballot’s status.
Oh how gorgeous! I hope your remaining time together is enjoyable and your son is able to hang out with him while he still is more or less himself.
I actually thought of you earlier—I took him out multiple times today, including this morning for long enough to do the NYT Connections, Wordle, Strands and all 3 Pips, no dice. Again later, nope. He took a long nap and after he woke he didn’t even look for me, just pooped right next to his bed 🤦🏻‍♀️
More food. I think I’m going to take a nap
Been a bit MIA, so here’s some food
Yes gauging public opinion on safety, prices etc. can be useful bc these perceptions drive voting, it would be much more helpful if the truth were highlighted. Crime rates are down! The economy under Biden wasn’t the Great Recession pt 2! While feelings aren’t facts, many votes are informed by them
While there is a clear discrepancy here in feelings of safety between those who take public transit and those who do not, so much media attention is paid towards people’s feelings on various topics, even if the facts do not back them up.
Do we want public transit to *be* safe or *feel* safe? This paragraph from an @opb.org article on transit security in Portland captures why this issue is so hard. Crime is way down since '20 but some people don't feel safe. Why? 🧵 1/

I don’t know what it is—they can’t tell when they have to go anymore, can’t hold it as well, but it doesn’t happen infrequently. Sometimes I take him out, after a bit decides he wants to leave the yard without going. Ten minutes later, poop. So I make him stay out for longer, with mixed results.
He was rescued from a backyard breeder. This is what he looked like then 😭
Yesterday was this old man’s (estimated) 15th birthday. He doesn’t move as well as he used to and poops more in the house than I’d like, but I’m grateful he has made it this long
If you’re unfamiliar with the INA, there is a portion that says if the SOS believes an immigrant “would have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the United States,” that person may be deported. Rubio cited this in deportation proceedings of Columbia student Mahmoud Khalil
4 more dishes with shiro miso! I think I either over-mixed the cookie batter or there was too much oil from the natural peanut butter so they deflated a bit and the tops didn’t crack like they was supposed to, and the sauce on the last pasta got a little gloopy because of when I added the Parmesan.
