Brace yourself against something firm. Although maybe not a large stone.
Superfluous ‘s’ on that last word …

The good folk at BBC's Radio Orkney interviewed me last week about the #SagaoftheEarlsofOrkney which will be available in bookshops here this coming week. You can listen to it here at 17'30" in www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/... Can I convert those who have never quite managed to get through it???

Has anyone ever seen Phil Harding and Neil Young in the same room?
“BEZOS SUPPORTS THIS GOVERNMENT,” Neil Young writes. “IT DOES NOT SUPPORT YOU OR ME.”

Seeing as @oxbowbooks.bsky.social sought to cherry pick my review of Snettisham, I thought I would add from the rest of my review.

You might also wish to read longer review here, which goes into detail about my significant issues with the books:

Wow. That’s amazing. Had never heard of a mast year - thank you!
Just finished a brilliant weekend of test pits in Hexham. So much enthusiasm from so many volunteers keen to learn about where they live. Huge thanks to the Hexham Local History Society for their sponsorship. #community #localhistory #archaeology

I've written up some of @remade-uor.bsky.social's latest results for @uor-research.bsky.social! Check out the blog post to learn how the chemistry of the Cunetio Hoard coins is revealing details of the rebellions during the 3rd c. Crisis.

Britannia, 274 AD. A rogue general has defied Rome to form a splinter state and, somewhere in Wiltshire, 55,000 coins are buried in the dirt.

Now, analysis of their alloys is letting archaeologist @kmurphster.bsky.social track an empire's rise & fall

I biked out to Caesar's Camp hillfort a couple weeks ago. It covers about 17.2 acres & is one of the largest in southern England. It isn't the best land for farming, so it's thought to have been more of a marketplace under the Catuvellanuni. I found the bank & ditch in the trees! #HillfortsWednesday
I’m so sorry that happened to you. You must have felt terrible and no wonder you were upset. People can be vile. I really hope the rest of your weekend is brighter.
What a brilliant project! Love how you have embedded this in the community.
Excellent reflexes. That’s terrifying.

Huge respect to Sarah Shafi - The response from both Banjay and the BBC clearly demonstrates they still don’t have a handle on the issue. Editing her out doesn’t fix the issue she was trying to highlight.

The one that made me properly change career instead being an (obsessive) amateur archaeologist was a Neolithic polished axehead spotted while dog walking. Such a beautiful, tactile, thought-provoking object and confirmed my love for lithics and prehistory.

It is a great site, sadly in need of some pruning though. I’d read the EH report for context before going as we may be doing some locally.
Warton Crag Fort. An elusive possible BA defensive something likely reused during the Iron Age & more than likely thereafter. But couldn’t see a thing anyway as the vegetation was so dense. And the crags look like ramparts so who knows. Nice view #HillfortsWednesday

Anyone still unsure of the difference between a publisher and a vanity press? Here it is. Publishers make money from selling books to the public. Vanity presses make money from selling publishing services to authors. In one model, the author gets paid. In the other, the author gets charged. Simple.
