Game Clearing Log 2025:

Game 1: Shinobi 3 (Genesis/3DS)

I loved this game. It’s better than Revenge of Shinobi by being fast paced. It is difficult, but the 3DS version makes it manageable. Definitely recommended as one of the best Mega Drive games.

Is Starfy really so sacred to you that you have resort to such immature tactics when opposing opinions emerge?

The problem is that to 100% the game, you have to first beat the game once and get a subpar ending.

Kirby doesn’t do this, Classic Sonic games don’t do this, and I’m sure Super Metroid doesn’t do this. All provide opportunities to get 100% on the first playthrough. Starfy doesn’t allow this.

Densetsu no Starfy 1 still remains a 7/10. It’s okay, but I can’t personally recommend this game. If interested, it is available on Nintendo Switch Online.

I missed the Arcade style progression that Kirby games had as well.

Collecting 9999 pearls just to complete the group photo is a huge, annoying grind.

Also, ALL STARFY GAMES REQUIRE BEATING THEM ONCE, THEN OBTAINING ALL TREASURES JUST TO GET THE REAL ENDING. WHY!?

Getting the treasures did get more challenging in later levels. I didn’t like that I had to restart the level to find the others.

The bosses got more challenging in scale, so that is a plus.

Looking back, I didn’t like the fetch quests you got sent on in the main game.

Games like Kirby and Classic Sonic both integrate their secret objectives within the main game, rather than post game to provide an organic incentive for completion. They aren’t tacked on at the end just for the purpose of artificially increasing the length of the game.

Update: I completed it and got all treasures. It was challenging, yes. Did I enjoy it? Not a lot. It’s forced replay ala Drakengard just for the sake of completion.

Game 18: Densetsu no Starfy (GBA)

A very cutetsy game. A good one too. It’s a simple game like Kirby, but underwater. It provides a challenge to both new and veteran gamers.

After completing the game once, you have to beat it again with finding all treasures. I hate that.

Game 18: Godhand (PS2)

A hilarious beatemup that doesn't give a shit. It is a product of its time, though. It IS a hard beatemup that challenges the player. Combat is simple, but the controls are clunky. The roulette wheel powers are great.
