Journalist Edward R. Murrow used his platform on CBS to criticize the witch hunts led by Senator Joseph McCarthy in the 1950s.

This is what real journalism should do — hold power to account, not capitulate to it.

JUST IN: A federal judge in San Francisco has HALTED Trump’s plan to lay off thousands of federal workers during his shutdown, calling it “unlawful” and “politically motivated.” Judge Illston said Trump acted as if “the laws don’t apply to them anymore.”

The mere fact that “big moneyed interests” seem to be in control should be a huge red flag in flashing neon. 🤨

Meta has removed a Chicago ICE-tracking Facebook page.

The move follows Apple and Google removing ICE activity tracking apps from their app stores.

The removals came after a demand from Trump’s DOJ.

Once again, Big Tech is bending the knee to our tyrant-in-chief to protect its bottom line.

Shouldn’t the actual event attendees be paying these costs? This sounds like regular drivers and commuters would be subsidizing costs for an event, even if they’re not attending it. Or am I missing something here? 🤔

“However, Bertuca said Wednesday, as he headed to the building to hand in his badge, “the defense beat is all about following the money. With a $1 trillion budget? They can’t hide. And I’m not going to stop doing my job.””

We salute the journalists who persist in their work and refuse to yield to Pete Hegseth. A dedicated press is essential for informing the American people about their government; this importance is reflected in the First Amendment, which we are sworn to protect.

The most powerful force in American politics today is anti-establishment rage at a system that’s rigged against most people.

Democrats should ignore the carping of corporate-backed Wall Street Democrats and embrace Zohran Mamdani and other young progressives as the future of the party.

Supercut of comments from Republicans today alone about the No Kings rallies taking place this weekend. This has to be some of the worst, and most anti-American, coordinated messaging of all time.

“Republicans failed to pass a budget for this fiscal year. That’s why the government shut down. In place of a budget, they want Democrats to bail them out by supporting a continuing resolution.

…Under Donald Trump, Washington has become the dead end of the American experiment.”

"Just becoming partisan is not a long-term strategy. Personally, as a journalist, I also find it an uninteresting strategy."

So much to say about this, but first let me tell you what it is. Thomas Evans, NPR's editor in chief, interviewed by Carolina Abbott Galvão in @columjournreview.bsky.social

He talks about basing their journalism in fact, and in the same breath advocates for false balance. Putting an anti-vaxxer and a scientist on the same level is what got us to where we are now. When you platform ridiculousness & place it coequal with seriousness you are giving the ridiculous a gift.

Why can't these organizations ever stop at "established in fact"? Isn't that what true journalism is? It's the multiple viewpoints and multiple opinions and implying they have equal weight against fact that has gotten us to the current media mess.

Any one of us could be in the next apartment building that ICE raids in the middle of the night.

Any one of us could be on the next boat that Trump bombs on a whim.

Any one of us could be detained for hours despite being a U.S. citizen.

Authoritarianism hurts all of us.

Trump’s power depends on maintaining the illusion that he’s all-powerful, and that Americans adore him.

But that illusion is harder to maintain if millions of people are in the streets protesting.

This is why Republicans are trying to discredit No Kings Day rallies before they've even happened.
