Don’t think I ever properly introduced myself here. Hello! I’m a Reuters journalist reporting on everything Malaysia and Brunei.

My account however is not strictly work-related and is mostly focused on my own personal interests incl. music, films, TV shows, writing, tennis, kpop, cats, etc. Hi!

I just said that this morning... imagine being more corrupt than FIFA

Malaysia on Thursday defended a decision to naturalise seven members of its national football team in a rapidly widening scandal after FIFA suspended the players over the alleged use of doctored documentation.

It seems that Kaleb Horton has passed away. A devastating loss. One of the best writers of this generation. Kaleb was a friend for ten years and in all our conversations I was trying to convince him how good he was, something he seemed to know but also never fully believe. I am going to go cry now.

most impressive thing I’ve seen my eight month old do on the baby monitor: stirs from sleep, reaches up to her neck where her pacifier is, picks it up, turns it around, jams it into her mouth and immediately goes back to sleep, all in pitch black darkness

Your occasional reminder that Ursula K. Le Guin and Philip K. Dick were in the same year in the same high school, liked each other’s writing, but never met in person.

Some news: yesterday was my last at Rolling Stone. For now, I'm going solo, doing all my TV reviewing, recapping, etc., at my newsletter. I hope you'll consider subscribing. Many more details here:

Oof. Rolling Stone dot com about to find out how many people were mostly subscribing for Alan Sepinwall.

I know nothing about Rolling Stone and its management, but Alan Sepinwall is the smartest, hardest working TV critic working today. His work has elevated the medium. I don't watch a show without checking to see what he thought of it, before or after.

Rolling Stone fired Alan Sepinwall, Status’ Oliver Darcy reports. That’s probably the end of my subscription.

“what should we lead with?”

“how about his range? his gravitas? his impact on film?”

“I was thinking how incredibly hot he was”

“… okay good point actually go with that”

SNEAKERS is one of the most purely charming, diverting light thrillers you can give yourself as a gift on a bad day. Redford, River Phoenix, Sidney literally Poitier, David Strathairn? It’s got good bones, as they say.

I first saw Sneakers in college. The year was 1992 and I was 17. They did a special screening on campus because Lawrence Lasker was an alum. Anyway, it was the first movie I saw Robert Redford in and it was CINEMA. Best movie ever. RIP to that handsome unproblematic man.

We need to find a way to divert troubled young men into cinephilia. No one who has logged 300+ films on letterboxd has ever assassinated anybody.

Director Guillermo del Toro is facing his own mortality and confronting the reality of frequent natural disasters by auctioning part of his collection of monsters and fantasy objects that are frequently the subject of his gothic films.
