It leaves us without big institutional defenders. It means that, in contesting the assaults of capital, we have to start almost from scratch. I sometimes wonder whether we'd be better off without the big nature NGOs. Rather than mobilising, as we'd otherwise do, we wait and wait for them to step up.

That is a very different thing to replacing humans. It just replaces grunt work.

It won't replace your psychologist, or teacher, or anything that requires some level of human understanding because it can never be fit for purpose.

The only profitable AI companies are already doing that.

In 10 years time, the only real profitable - and by profitable, I mean extremely *profitable* - AI companies will be those powering grunt work industrial/info processes. AI won't replace humans, it will only replace the stuff that requires humans to do (like testing if A+B+C= potential cancer drug)

Craven career politician. Likewais #MurrayWatt. Sorry to change the subject but choosing to deal with the COALition rather than the Greens on the EPBC act is to deal with the party no one wanted.

FFS get real @albomp.bsky.social

We need Labor’s Mr Fixit to fix the environment, not the politics
Environment Minister Murray Watt is Labor’s political "fixer" – Australians want him to fix something for us, and our planet.

Albanese is a craven career politician who has self interest as his top priority, followed closely by the interests of lobbyists. He is as corrupt as his bedfellows in the LNP.

It’s great to see the cross bench coming out early and with strength opposing the Govt’s evil #FOI Amendment Bill. Here’s @helenhainesindi.bsky.social’s amendment killing off the ability of the Govt to charge FOI applications fees and for officials to summarily dismiss FOI requests. #auspol

Cartels are for sure offering CBP and ICE bounties now that officers have been pulled off of tracking them down in order to go after empanada vendors, nannies, and inflatable unicorns. Makes total sense.

I don't think the 'cease fire' will hold. You can call me a pessimist.

As for the Dunt (Dumb...t), he's just confirming what we already know. No surprise.

‘I am the only one that matters’: Trump deals praise and insults at Gaza summit

Self-styled world’s greatest peacemaker calls Meloni ‘beautiful’ and Erdoğan a ‘friend’…

Gives new meaning to Hubris.

I think this will unravel. Any odds?

I watch in horror from half a world away as events unfold in the US. How ordinary folk become complicit as Trump's ICE Gestapo.

No man is an island. Everything is connected to everything else. Every word. Every kind act. Counts.

To remain silent is to be as complicit as they are.

I refuse to let hopelessness prevail. This may just be one essay, by a lawyer few have heard of, in a newsletter read by a fraction of the public. But I will not stay silent.

Will you?

No reason whatsoever. (though there must be something - hmm, checking…) It is why there is a "debate" about an Australian republic with a president instead of a Governor General.

Google's AI summary tells me this. Though it doesn't actually answer the question.

How the monarchy works in Australia:

Head of State vs. Head of Government:
Australia is a constitutional monarchy, meaning the King is the head of state, but the head of government is the Prime Minister.

Governor-General's Role:
The Governor-General is the King's representative in Australia and exercises the King's powers, including giving Royal Assent to laws passed by Parliament.
Advisory Principle:
The King appoints the Governor-General based on the advice of the Australian Prime Minister, and the Governor-General must act according to constitutional conventions and the advice of Australian ministers.
Ceremonial Functions:
The monarch's role in Australia is mostly symbolic and doesn't involve the day-to-day governance of the country.
Power is Delegated:
The King's powers in Australia are delegated to his representative, the Governor-General, who performs the functions of the head of state.

We don’t have a gas shortage, we have a gas export problem. Santos are gaming the system and pushing up the price of gas paid by 🇦🇺 households & industry.

We don’t need new projects, we need to reserve uncontracted export gas for 🇦🇺 now!
