Better than zero percent chance this shit brings me back to the church (I cannot believe I’m saying this)
Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”
It takes a special kind of brain genius to make people think about politics while they’re already having with the most irritating interaction they regularly endure with the organization that you yourself run, and to simultaneously believe that will somehow reflect well on your governance.

California's governor has signed SB 79, a large-scale upzoning of land near transit throughout the state's largest counties.
If I am killed by a driver, the people I love will feel the same anguish regardless of said driver‘s intent. Motonormativity stops us from accurately assessing the material impact of the crime.
I remember talking to a former law enforcement official who told me that judges and juries can be hesitant to impose charges that could send drivers to prison, largely because those judges and juries are drivers too and worry that an "accident" could lead to prison time.
I mean this with all due respect: what the fuck are these people talking about
From Donald Trump's Roundtable on Antifa just now —
"Antifa has been around in various iterations for almost 100 years in some instances, going back to the Weimar Republic in Germany."

It’s so loud in there! I mean I guess I’m glad it exists in the same way I’m glad The Wharf exists, but it is very much Not For Me™️

everyone should legitimately be done forever with @gavinnewsom.bsky.social if he doesn't sign SB79. people took massive risks to get this through, YIMBY groups scraped together a coalition that could get through both chambers, if he fucking bails out now he's worthless.
A bunch of toxic LA NIMBYs are whining about SB 79, the amazing housing bill the CA legislature passed recently.

It's on the governor's desk, and reportedly he's getting cold feet. Hey @gavinnewsom.bsky.social, please have some spine on the most important issue in your state. Just sign it.

If all the space in Adams Morgan currently dedicated to tables and dining goes back to being car parking, it will be a huge loss to the neighborhood. That land is of far greater benefit to the community as is rather than as car storage. wtop.com/dc/2025/09/t...

It’s utterly clear he’s not at the wheel anymore. We are ruled by scheming viziers and copper wire magnates.

#BREAKING: Over dissents from Justices Sotomayor, Kagan & Jackson, #SCOTUS grants a stay in the Slaughter case (allowing President Trump to remove the last Dem member of the FTC), *and* grants certiorari "before judgment" to decide whether to formally overrule its 1935 ruling in Humphrey's Executor.

You might think it should be a non-controversial belief among Democrats that "DC should be able to self-govern.

But 31 House Democrats just voted to give Trump and Congressional Republicans full control over DC's sentencing laws.

Shameful, heinous behavior from Vichy Democrats

Federal agents in DC have been starting dangerous car cases for small stuff like tinted windows. The chases violate DC police policy.

Out of 10 cases, six ended in a crash. One car had a minor in back.

Everyone detained by ICE in DC is first taken to an office building in Chantilly, Virginia, where they are supposed to be quickly processed.

Instead, people are being held there for several days in awful conditions:

— Severe overcrowding
— No beds
— No showers
— No medicine
— Only one meal a day
Inside a Virginia ICE office: One meal a day, 40 people in a room and no bathing for days
"The situation is getting worse by the day," warns Amy Fischer, an organizer with Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid. "It is an office; it is not intended to detain people."

Creating modal shift is a civil liberties issue, among other things.
I hear there was a big checkpoint involving both MPD and feds along N. Capitol Street last night, across from the McMillan reservoir.

To the extent there’s police activity outside of downtown, it’s increasingly taking this form: traffic checkpoints with immigration agents.
